iRacer Profile – Scott Green

Not all iRacers belong to Generation X or Y.  There’s plenty of baby-boomer sim racers out there, and no small number are probably identify more with Geritol than Generation X, Y or Z.

I wouldn’t be so presumptuous as to guess Scott Green’s generational affiliation, but the fact the Albuquerquean lists his birth date as “quite some time ago” leads me to believe his contemporaries in a famous local clan are familiarly known as Big Al and Uncle Bobby, rather than Little Al and Bobby, Jr.  And the fact that his favorite cars on the iRacing service are the Silver Crown sprint car and Mustang FR500S also suggests Green is “old school.”  Did I mention the person he most admires is a fellow named Mario Andretti?

While he may be old school, he’s far from over the hill — witness the fact that Green has a half dozen wins to his credit in 2011 and ranks in the top 20 in Silver Crown points and P26 in Divsion 2 of the popular Thrustmaster Mustang Challenge.   Heck, Mario retired from IndyCar racing at age 54 and competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans when he was 60 . . .

Q:     How long have you been sim racing?
A:     Picked up a copy of Grand Prix Legends in 2000, had most the Papy Nascar titles up to 2002. First online in 2006 with Live for Speed, then iRacing.

Q:     What attracted you to iRacing?
A:     Real cars and tracks, and with the involvement of Dave Kaemmer, well you knew it had to be good.

Q:     What are favorite iRacing cars/tracks?
A:     Really don’t have any favorite tracks, they all present their own challenges. Laguna is one, probably because I have been there so many times in real life, and I love the Milwaukee Mile in anything. Cars, well that’s easy, the sprint car and the Mustang.

Q:     What do you like most about iRacing?
A:     Competing with guys from around the world and the constant updating, they keep making it better.

Q:     How many hours a week do you spend on iRacing?
A:     Really I don’t know, and I don’t think I want to.

Q:     Tell us about the paint schemes on your helmet/car(s)
A:     I like to change the paint schemes every season, this season the Mustang I have painted green like Steve McQueen’s car in the movie Bullitt. I have a custom skin for the sprinter, the Casey Luna car, a local New Mexico car from the past. Got to thank David Hiebert, who I met here online for the skins.

Q:     What are your favorite video games? Other hobbies?
A:    Tiger Woods Golf on the Xbox, and I like to fish.

Q:     What is your most memorable iRacing moment ?
A:     It’s always the last good battle I was in, which was in the sprinter at USA last Thursday, hopefully that changes this week.

Q:     What is the iRacing moment you’d love to forget ?
A:     The times I have thrown away a win because I got stupid, and how many times I have done that!!

Q:     What car/track would you like to see iRacing add to the service?
A:     Monza, it just kinda says auto racing on an international scale, so much history there.

Q:     What person, living or dead, do you most admire? Why?
A:     Mario Andretti, two reasons really, he drove everything and drove them hard. And he is living proof that if you really want something bad enough, and are willing to sacrifice, work for it, you can do it.

Q:     What’s your favourite real world racing series?
A:     Formula One, Moto GP, AMA motocross.

Q:     Name the title of the most recent book you read.
A:     My Bible.

Q:     Name of your favorite movie/TV show
A:     I don’t watch much T.V. But I like NCIS and The Mentalist when I do. Movies?  Well I have the need to see Grand Prix and Get Shorty a couple of times a year.

Q:     How many of your close friends are iRacing members?
A:     Well, no one that I know, mmm, personally. But I consider guys that I compete with online to be friends, some of them are on my Facebook page.

Q:     Has competing with iRacers all around the world influenced your opinions/outlook on life/world events? How?
A:     No doubt. Especially when there is some kind of disaster, because no matter where it is, you are or have been racing with someone from that region of the world.
