Street Stocks: Paquette Still on Top
by Allen Krier on January 18th, 2012
Week 11 of the iRacing.com Street Stock Series saw sim racers travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to race on the 1/4 mile Legends Oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway. During the week, 629 drivers made one or more starts while 211 drivers turned at least one qualifying lap and Maxime Paquette (Eastern Canada) looked to increase his points lead in his drive to bring home the season championship.
Weekly High Strength of Field
Last week’s high Strength of Field (SoF) race registered at 2773 which paid 168 points for the victory. New NASCAR iRacing, com Series World Championship qualifier Paul Kusheba (Connecticut) found himself on the top step of last week’s high SoF race after starting sixth. Kusheba lead 43 laps in route to a four tenth victory over Benjamin Harste (Midwest). For his second place effort, Harste earned 151 points. Dylan Roe (Carolina) finished in the third position, coming home almost 12 seconds behind Kusheba. Roe collected 134 points for his efforts, while Cole Anderson (Midwest) and Seth Eggert (Carolina) rounded-out the top five and received 117 and 100 points, respectively.
Weekly Standings
With his victory in the high SoF race, Kusheba would finish with the most points in a week that saw him take nine wins in nine starts and 161 points. Harste finished in the second position in the weekly standings after finishing second to Kusheba in the SoF race. Harste finished the week with one win in two starts and 154 points. Trey Jarrell (Virginias) finished Week 11 in the third position, winning both his starts for the week and finishing with 149 points. Mark McDowell (Michigan) finished the week in fourth while points leader Paquette rounded-out the Top Five. McDowell won two of his four races and finished with 147 points while Paquette won one of his two races and finished with 146 points.
Season Standings
As the season winds down, Paquette still retains the point lead after adding 23 points to his overall point total in Week 11, bringing him to 1267 points. Greg Hooks (Virginias) still maintains second in points although he was not able to add to his point total at Charlotte. Hooks now trails Paquette by 75 points with one week left on the schedule. Kevin Moody (New York) is still sitting in the third position after adding 20 points to his total during Week 11, bringing his total to 1156 points. Michael Vaughn (West) was able to keep fourth in points after Week 11 although he did not run a race. Vaughn’s point total remains at 1120 points. Rounding out the top five in the season standings after Week 11 is Anderson. Anderson was able to knock CJ LaVair (New York) out of the Top Five with a decent week at Charlote, one that brought his point total to 1075 points.
Weekly Qualifying
Jarrell finished the week with the fastest qualifying time after turning a 16.297s lap at the 1/4 mile oval. Kusheba wound-up second on the week with a 16.313s while Brodie Kostecki (Australia/NZ) finished the week in third with a 16.358. Moody and McDowell toured the Legends Oval in 16.390s and 16.429s respectively for fourth and fifth fastest times of the week.
The iRacing.com Street Stock Series will finish the season at Oxford Plains Speedway in Week 12. It is safe to say that Paquette and Hooks have their position in points locked-up, but there will be a battle for the remaining top five in season standings.
