  • Tim Terry
    Contributing Writer
Tim Terry, aka the voice of Maritime stock car racing, fell in love with sim racing in 2004 after he joined the Sim Racing Network crew as a pit reporter. I've been a race fan since before I can remember, going to dirt tracks around the Washington, DC area since the early 70's with my parents.  I got away from racing during my school years but in 1989 a friend and I went to a race in Hagerstown, MD and from there my life was all about racing.  I currently live in Winchester, VA and while Dirt Late Models is my favorite form of racing, I also enjoy many other forms such as F1, IndyCar, 410 sprint cars on dirt and (probably more than anything) sim racing.  My favorite driver is Ayrton Senna.
I was introduced to sim racing in 1989 when a friend turned me onto Indy 500 The Sim by Papyrus.  It took me a few years to own my own PC but once I did, all I wanted to do was sim race. I tried to race my friends as much as possible via modem racing back in the 90's before joining TEN in 1998.  From there I devoted a lot of time to online racing enjoying every minute of it.  I was able to meet a lot of my competitors from all over the world at LAN events and races I went to.  Being able to call some real world drivers friends as a result of sim racing is probably the neatest part of this whole deal!

In the sim-racing world, I won an rFactor V8 Supercar season and also was awarded with Best & Fairest award. I am now situated with the best simulation in the world (iRacing.com!) and love every minute of it. I currently race in the V8 Supercar Online Series and finished 16th overall in 2012 Season 1.

I was born in Adelaide and we moved-out for Angle Vale for a few years until I was about 7 years old, when we moved to the Barossa Valley where I live now. I'm 19 years old and currently traveling back and forth weekly as I’m studying for a Diploma of Furniture Design and Technology.

I’ve always had a love for racing as my close family did some racing and we were always out at the local dirt track. I joined iRacing back in 2010 and slowly but surely got the hang of it as this is my first experience with sim racing and am loving it each time I race. I’ve won two SK Modified titles (almost had three in a row but finished P2 in 2011 S4), an inRacingNews Challenge championship (2012 S1 Mazda) and was also an AustralAsian Intel GT Series Finalist.

Caddell’s Daytona Diary – UPDATED Saturday 1.30.10

January 28th, 2010

Andrew CaddellAndrew Caddell, co-driver of the #59 iRacing Mustang, is competing this weekend in the Fresh From Florida 200 at Daytona International Speedway. He will be providing updates from the track via inRacingNews.com.Andrew is an avid iRacer and an accomplished racer in the real world as well, having won the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series two years running.

1.30.10 Post Race Update

It’s the day after race day and I still feel like we could have done better in the race. We started off very good in 3rd place and were in 4th at the end of the first lap and right on the leaders. Then we had a full course caution and that’s when some problems started to arise. On the restart I got a good start and stayed in 4th but getting on the banking coming out of Turn 6 the car felt sluggish and I got passed by 2 cars by the time we got to the bus stop chicane. I started to know we were down on power and just let car after car go by me. I fell back to 10th and made up some spots while others pitted and pitted while in 8th. We pitted a little early as I thought the motor was blowing up because it sounded real rough. So I told the team to put my co-driver Ken Wilden in the car so he could get his 30 minutes in.

He got out there and quickly realized we had a broken header as the car just could not pull up on anyone and was getting passed way too easily. He came on the radio and said how awesome the car was handling and how if we just had some horsepower we would have a car to contend for a podium spot. We were about 16th with 20 minutes to go and I was preparing myself to finish around there. But it turned into a race with a lot of splash and go’s and that helped us out as we pitted and could go the rest of the way. Ken ended up making it all the way up to 9th at the finish which was a very good finish considering the broken header.

Rehagen Racing gave us a great car that could contend for the podium but just didn’t have the horsepower. I was happy with a 9th place finish considering the circumstances. I know we could of done a lot better so that is a little frustrating. I had a lot of fun though this week with Rehagen and my co-driver Ken Wilden. The car was looking great out on track with the iRacing and Ford Racing Mustang Challenge livery. Would have been very nice to have that car in Victory Lane but I am happy with 9th.

1.29.10 Pre Race Update 12:00 pm EST

Getting ready to head to the pre race drivers meeting in about 30 minutes and I’m feeling pretty good about where we are. We got a good grid spot in 3rd and got the car handling a lot better during qualifying and the warm-up session earlier. I will be starting the race and hopefully will be running up front and hand a car capable of winning off to my co-driver Ken Wilden. Will let you know how the race goes after.

1.28.10 Qualifying Update 6:55 pm EST

Qualifying here at Daytona just concluded and we ended up 3rd in the GS class. Heading out I had a good gap on the cars in front of me and I was feeling like we wouldn’t catch anyone in the first couple of laps which are the best laps on the tires. My first lap ended up being good enough for 2nd place but about a second off. My 2nd flyer was going very well and I hit all the corners nearly perfect. As I was coming through the Tri-Oval a Camaro broke really early into turn on so I went to the outside and he pushed me out wide. I got down to the inside of him heading for the timing line and he ran me into the grass so I had to brake to avoid hitting him. The timing line is after Turn 1 and at the end of the pit exit so this killed my lap. I was timed at a 1:59.5 at the start/finish line but being held up I fell back to a 2:00.2 which was still good enough for 3rd but the time at the line would have been good enough for the pole.

Andrew Caddell's iRacing MustangWe got the car handling a lot better and now all we have to do is make some minor changes for the race tomorrow and I feel a lot better of our chances to be up on the podium tomorrow. I have a great co-driver in Ken Wilden who is the defending champion in this series so I know he can bring the car home. Looking forward to tomorrow and I will let you know how it goes!

1.28.10 Pre Qualifying 4:35 pm EST

It’s practice day here at Daytona International Speedway. We have had 2 practices today so far and the car is doing pretty good. We have been making changes to the car during both sessions and the car has been getting progressively better. We were 11th in both sessions but I feel like we will be a lot better during qualifying in about an hour. We are making a lot of changes and going to the setup that was on the car last year when it won the pole for this race, no pressure right! I’m looking forward to qualifying and see what the race has in store for Ken Wilden and I. Will write more after qualifying and let you know where we end up.
