iRacer Profile: Maksym Yefanov
by David Phillips on October 15th, 2011
Should you find yourself in the middle of an iRacing.com Prototype and GT Challenge race with a Ford GT piloted by an iRacer in a blue and yellow helmet, chances are good that the Ford GT is being piloted by Maksym Yefanov. The long-time iRacer has proudly adopted the colors of his native Ukraine for his helmet paint scheme. Chances are also good that that Ford GT will be at or very near the front of the Ford GT class competition. After all, Yefanov currently stands P2 in the Ford GT class of the iRacing.com Prototype and GT Challenge, trailing only Wyatt Foster in the points race thanks to a dozen wins and more than two dozen top five finishes in 27 starts.
Q: How long have you been sim racing?
A: The time I tested a simulator was in 2008, it was RACE simbin. For about half a year I drove in it and GTR2 but I was constantly dissatisfied with the simulation. As a result since 2009 has started racing iRacing
Q: What attracted you to iRacing?
A: The desire to race in a quality simulator has led me to the iRacing service. After I tried it, I have been very amazed by quality of movements; visually it was very beautiful and real in comparison with other simulators.
Q: What are your favorite iRacing cars and tracks?
A: Cars: VW Jetta, Ford GT. Tracks: Suzuka and Brands Hatch.
“There’s only one real sim racing: iRacing.”
Q: What do you like most about iRacing?
A: Correct and competitive racers, with which it is possible to fight on race track.
Q: What would you change about iRacing?
A: The system of damages of cars that make minor contact while racing. It perhaps biggest minus which I constantly face.
Q; How many hours a week do you spend iRacing?
A: At first time I raced often, but now I have a lot of work; therefore I am racing about 6-8 hours per week.
Q: Tell us about the paint schemes on your helmet/car(s)
A: Using a standard iRacing coloring, I painted my helmet in colors of my country — Ukraine.
Q: What other sim racing activities (Forza, Gran Tourismo, etc.) do you do?
A: I don’t play any game-simulators, there’s only one real sim racing: iRacing. It is the best and unique simulator!
Q: What are your favorite video games?
A: Condemned and Stalker.
Q: What is your most memorable iRacing moment?
A: World Jetta finale
But it was not lucky for me
Q: What is the iRacing moment you’d love to forget?
A: Defeats because of my errors during important races.
Q: What car/track would you like to see iRacing add to the service?
A: I am a very long time waiting from you to add a class of touring cars such as BTCC or WTCC.
Q: What person, living or dead, do you most admire? Why?
A: It is difficult to choose always to itself an idol from outside, but I think it the Ukrainian Rally Champion Andrey Aleksandrov. It was an example of how we must love motor racing and give all your life for it!
“Ukrainian Rally Champion Andrey Aleksandrov . . . an example of how we must love motor racing and give all your life for it!”
Q: Name the title of the most recent book you have read
A: Agni Yoga by Nicholas Roerich
Q: Name of your favorite movie/TV show?
A: Movie: Butterfly Effect.
Q: How many of your close friends are iRacing members?
A: About five people.
Q: Has competing with iRacers influenced your life outside of sim racing?
A: I have had an opportunity to go in the small championship on rolling go-cart racing, so now I apply all my sim racing experience in these real competitions. I hope in the future to go in serious racing disciplines and thus it is obligatory to continue to keep training on a simulator! Without it I could not receive such wide experience. It is the unique tool, it enables me to learn much, especially behaviour and tactics during a race!
