Logano Leads iRacers at Talladega
by David Phillips on November 2nd, 2009
The iRacing contingent enjoyed a mixed bag of results last weekend from Talladega to Silverstone. Joey Logano came through a wild final three laps to finish third in the NASCAR Sprint Cup AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Logano was one of three iRacers in the top ten at Talladega yesterday as Brad Keselowski came home eighth with Bobby Labonte tenth, one better than Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Logano survived a wild finish to take third at Talladega.
With his second top five finish in the past three races, Logano moves into nineteenth spot in the Sprint Cup standings, just 25 points behind fellow-iRacer Marcos Ambrose. Speaking of Ambrose, the Australian was running mid-pack before he was caught-up in a multi-car accident with three laps remaining and was eventually credited with a thirty-fourth place finish.
Saturday’s Mountain Dew 250 saw iRacer Colin Braun finish twelfth to move into fifth place in the Camping World Truck Series standings, 51 points behind fourth placed Todd Bodine. Braun also earned the fourth CWT pole position of the season, comfortably outpacing second fastest Terry Cook by almost half a second.

De Phillippi gave Team USA its second straight Walter Hayes Trophy.
At Silverstone, the Walter Hayes Trophy saw a couple of iRacers give good accounts of themselves as Josef Newgarden came home sixth in the Final race, having battled his way into the feature with a win in the Last Chance Semi-Final event. Brett Smrz finished ninth in the Final following an early incident, having finished third in his Semi-Final event after winning his heat race on Saturday. More importantly, American Connor De Phillippi won the Final event, making this the second year running that a member of the Team USA Scholarship has won the prestigious Walter Hayes Trophy. Last year it was Conor Daly taking home the hardware.
Also of note, the IndyCar Series web site is running an interesting article on iRacer and Firestone Indy Lights competitor Stefan Wilson’s preparations for an F1 test with McLaren. Click here to read it.
