South Boston Legends Cup
by Brian Tedeschi on March 8th, 2010
Yes I finally won again! This feeling was racing through my head after I won my iRacing Legends Cup race at South Boston Speedway. I thought this would never happen, but I guess that miracles really do come true. It started out as a an online race that couldn’t get any worse, to a race that couldn’t get any better.
The warm-ups went fairly well and I came out with the third fastest time and only off the leader by three hundredths of a second. I had that gut feeling that said this was going to be a great finish. Once the five minute warm-up session ended, I quickly entered the grid for the forty lap main event. I was starting on the pole position. I thought I had a very strong chance at being the victor in this race. As I pulled away from the grid, the great sportsmanship of all the drivers in the race showed. We were all wishing each other good luck and telling everyone to be very patient. When the one to green was displayed, the atmosphere changed, every single one of us had one idea in out heads, win this race.
When the green lights were displayed, I gunned it. I made it through the first turn safe and sound, and initially pulled away to a one second lead over second place. But as my tires wore down, Jake Boldig in the second place car started catching me lap by lap. By the halfway point, he was all over my back bumper. He passed me going in to Turn One but slid up and I took advantage of that quickly and regained the lead. By Lap Thirty, we swapped the lead numerous times, but he always lost it on the same lap. Now I looked at the lap counter to see that there was five laps left in this race. Then I pushed very hard to win this battle and for some reason, he started to retreat back farther and farther. Then when the white flag flew I made sure that I made no mistakes and I ended up winning the race. I was very thrilled that I held on to this race. People were saying ‘Great race Brian’ and I wished everyone the same. Jake said his praise and left. This was a very great experience me and it turned in to a dream.
As you can see, I had a very awesome time racing with a very talented group of people. They all were respectful and kind towards each other. I wish that I will win more races in the future and race with the same class of people again.
