Busch Cruises To Fifth-Straight At Texas
April 20th, 2010

FORT WORTH, Texas — Kyle Busch completed a highly unusual sweep for Joe Gibbs Racing by winning Monday afternoon’s rain-delayed O’Reilly 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Earlier in the day, Denny Hamlin won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the 1.5-mile superspeedway for JGR. It was only the second time in NASCAR history that the Cup and Nationwide Series raced on the same day. The previous time was a Feb. 25, 2008 rain out at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
Busch dominated the event, leading 153 of the 200 laps, but still had to battle from behind late in the event in order to win his fifth-consecutive Texas Motor Speedway Nationwide Series event.
“That’s cool to win five in row,” Busch said. “We had a great race car.”
He had his No. 18 Toyota ahead of the field when the fourth and final yellow flag of the event waved when Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. crashed on lap 169. The leaders made their final pit stop, but a slight error on pitlane allowed Jason Leffler to leave with the lead, while Busch’s teammate Joey Logano was second with Busch exiting the pits third.
The green flag waved on lap 173 and Logano blasted past Leffler for the lead with Busch following him past. Logano led three laps before Busch made his winning move on lap 177 and led the final 24 circuits for his third triumph of the season and the 33rd of his career.
“We were able to run around there all day and bide our time, but there at the end of the race, the yellow flag came out and we had to race Joey for it,” Busch explained. “We had a flawless car and I drove my guts out there at the end of the race to get back to the front after I made that mistake in the pits.”
The victory also put Busch into the point lead by 20 points over previous leader Brad Keselowski, who finished fourth.
Logano came home second, completing a one-two sweep for Joe Gibbs Racing.
“The last 10 laps was as close as we could get to him (Busch),” Logano said. “Kyle took off better than me on the restart and he got by me. I tried to keep up the best I could.”
Reed Sorenson brought his Braun Racing Toyota to the finish third, giving Toyota the top three finishing positions.
Keselowski was fourth in a Dodge with Kevin Harvick claiming fifth in a Chevrolet.
There were 13 lead changes among eight different drivers and four yellow flags for 24 laps. The race was completed in a snappy two hours, seven minutes and 53 seconds despite a delay to repair the safer barrier after Clint Bowyer crashed on lap 82.
