Matt Kenseth Rules All-Star Challenge
June 30th, 2010

OREGON, Wis. — NASCAR veteran Matt Kenseth made a last-lap move to steal the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour Swiss Colony All-Star Challenge 100 from Steve Carlson Tuesday at Madison Int’l Speedway.
Nick Murgic and Jeff Storm led the field to the green flag, with Storm taking the early lead only to retire on lap four with mechanical issues. Murgic inherited the lead and stayed there until the mandatory 15-minute break on lap 75.
Kenseth, the fast qualifier, started 14th after the invert and had made his way to fifth by lap 75. Following the restart, Carlson made his move, passing Murgic for the lead in turn three on lap 82.
After a brief battle with his son Ross Kenseth, M. Kenseth moved into second and set his sights on Carlson. He hounded him for several laps, waiting until the final lap to make his move.
Entering turn three on the final lap M. Kenseth sneaked to the inside of Carlson, forcing him up the track. That move was enough to give the former NASCAR Sprint Cup champion the victory in the 100-lap event.
“We made a little contact on the backstretch,” said M. Kenseth. “I wanted to make sure to get in there hard enough so he could not pinch me down on the flat. I knew that was my only chance to beat him to line.”
Carlson, who has three victories in five ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour events this year, was second. R. Kenseth was third, followed by Dan Fredrickson and Steve Holzhausen. Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart finished 15th.
