Penske’s Young Guns Looking To Make Mark
February 7th, 2010

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In auto racing — just like any other sport — there is always discussion about who has the next hot prospect.
If you’re Roger Penske, the question isn’t who is the next top prospect. Instead, Penske has to ask which one of his hot prospects will be the hottest.
The Penske Racing team has signed a number of the sport’s best up-and-coming drivers in the last few years, including NASCAR hotshoe Brad Keselowski, 2008 ARCA champion Justin Allgaier and 2009 ARCA runner-up Parker Kligerman.
Allgaier began his career in ARCA driving for his family-owned operation. After impressing Penske during the 2008 season, Allgaier signed a developmental deal with Penske and joined the team last year for the entire Nationwide Series schedule.
“Brad is extremely talented at making his race car do the things that he wants it to do,” said Allgaier. “So far, we’ve been able to complement each other really well.”
Keselowski had been a member of Hendrick Motorsports offshoot JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series the last few years. He left that operation last year when it became clear he wouldn’t be able to make the jump to Sprint Cup in 2010 with Hendrick.
“I just want to be a threat to win week in and week out. That’s where we want to get to,” said Keselowski, who finished third in the NASCAR Nationwide standings the last two years while driving for JR Motorsports. “We’ve got the ability to do that in the Nationwide car with Paul Wolfe (crew chief) and that whole team just starting up. I’m really proud of that team. On the Cup side, we know that we have a lot of work to do to get there.”
Keselowski will have a full schedule this year. He plans to compete full time in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series for Penske. He is expected to be a contender for the Nationwide Series title.
Kligerman came out of nowhere last year and dominated throughout the ARCA season, winning nine races and falling five points shy of the ARCA championship. His 2010 schedule includes the first five races of the NASCAR Nationwide season in the No. 42 Dodge fielded by Eddie Smith with support from Penske.
“I am really looking forward to competing in the first five races of the season in the No. 42 Dodge,” said Kligerman, who captured the pole in his first Nationwide Series start last year at Kansas Speedway. “It is so important for me to continue to learn and develop at this stage of my career and I’m excited that I can continue to work with Penske Racing and hopefully get off to a strong start in 2010 with Team 42 Racing so we can position ourselves for more races this year.”
With the impressive amount of young talent on display at Penske Racing (and due respect to Dario Franchitti and Target/Chip Ganassi Racing), it might not be long before Penske’s organization rules not just the IZOD IndyCar Series, but NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series as well.
