Jason Lofing
iRacing.com Series WriterJason is 21 years old and was born and raised in Elk Grove. California. A big time NASCAR fan, he hasn’t missed a race on Sunday in years. Lofing is also a huge San Fransisco Giants fan and tries to take in at least a couple games a year. Other than sim racing, his biggest (and far more expensive!) hobby is photography. Although he is rather new to sim racing, Lofing has already accomplished some pretty impressive results, qualifying for the 2011 iRacing Oval Pro Series in Season 1, 2011, winning the inaugural Landon Cassill Qualifying Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second one.
Ray Bryden
Technical contributorRay grew up in Nova Scotia, which means he’s a hockey nut, but in Nova Scotia’s two non-winter months he had to find other diversions, which meant watching F1 racing on weekends with his dad and brothers. Without the resources to get started in racing, he gravitated to computer versions of racing – first Atari games like Pole Position, followed by PC racing games like Indianapolis 500: The Simulation. Dozens of others came and went, until Grand Prix Legends came along and he decided sim-racing was his official hobby. Years were spent enjoying this both offline and online until a few years of fatherhood took priority. When free-time reappeared he heard about iRacing and signed up in 2008 and became so involved in the service that he wrote one of the first books on the subject of sim-racing, iRacing Paddock. When not writing for inRacingNews.com, his main occupation is as a research associate with Saint-Gobain working on advanced ceramic materials.
Patrick Atherton
Contributing WriterPatrick Atherton, originally from Adelaide in the state of South Australia, currently resides just outside of Melbourne, Victoria with wife of 17 years and 3 kids. A business manager by profession, but also dabbles with blogging, cartooning and fine art, having been published both as a writer in a short-lived South Australian motorsport yearbook and later as a cartoonist in a niche trade magazine. At the age of 19 he competed in club circuit events in an Austin Healey Sprite, later indulging in sprint karts between 1994 and 2000. Following the move to the State of Victoria he raced Road Race Karts (“Superkarts” as they are known in Australia) in the popular Rotax class, competing at Phillip Island, Oran Park, Mallala, Wakefield Park, Eastern Creek, Calder Park, Sandown and Winton. It was during this time he met former Australian F2 champion and inventor of Australia’s first, and most prolific race simulator rig, Jon Crooke. This culminated in an introduction to Papyrus’ legendary NR2003 simulation, and the subsequent sim racing addiction which brought him to iRacing.
Tim Terry
Contributing WriterTim Terry, aka the voice of Maritime stock car racing, fell in love with sim racing in 2004 after he joined the Sim Racing Network crew as a pit reporter. From October 2004 to SRNtv’s closure in June 2007, he’s covered prestigious races and leagues such as the Online 500, FLM Fall 400, Real Racing Online and the DMP Racing League – each as the lead broadcaster for the company. At the same time the wheels started to turn in another direction as he began announcing stock car racing locally. Terry became the assistant announcer at Scotia Speedworld in May 2007 and took over full duties in May 2009 when long-time voice Mike Kaplan retired from the track. Terry also became the series voice of the Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour in ’09 and continues to hold down both posts in 2011. He has also announced races for the Pro All Stars Series, Atlantic Open Wheel and Maritime League of Legends tours and has called races at six different Atlantic Canadian tracks. Stewart: Patrick wants NASCAR future

Tony Stewart says Danica Patrick is serious about a future in NASCAR and suggested the IndyCar star could make a progressive switch starting next year with a number of Nationwide Series outings.
The two-time Sprint Cup and former Indy Racing League champion confirmed that Patrick visited his team’s headquarters again this week, following a first visit in July.
He said Patrick told him she wants to make the transition to NASCAR in the future and is looking for guidance from Stewart in order to plan her jump to stock cars.
“I know that she’s serious about it,” said Stewart. “She’s come over and just talking for things right now. I know that’s what she wants to do. She looked me straight in the eye and said ‘this is what I want to do – it looks like fun, looks like a lot of work, but it looks like fun.’
“I don’t think she has some misguided idea that it’s going to be easy doing it. She wants to do it the right way, she has the intentions of doing everything right and she’s kind of come to us to see our opinion about how she should go about it.”
Stewart said Patrick still plans to remain in IndyCars next season while trying to make a slow transition into NASCAR.
“I think she wants to know how to make the transition more than anything and she’s trying to put together her IRL deal and try to figure out how to transition that into NASCAR,” Stewart added.
“I think she’s trying to do it the right way. She’s not just cutting the chord and all of the sudden jumping in a car that she’s unfamiliar with.
“She wants to stay successful where she’s at, but in the meantime try to figure out a way to be able to drive and get some seat time in a car to where she can start learning to where when she does come out she’s got her act together.”
Stewart believes the Andretti Green driver could run a partial schedule in the Nationwide Series next season, while competing still full-time in IndyCars. He praised the female racer for not underestimating the task she is set to face in trying to make a successful transition to NASCAR.
“The great thing is that she asked a lot of very smart questions in the discussions about it,” said Stewart. “You can tell that she wants to do it the right way, she understands how hard everybody has worked to get to this level here and she doesn’t want to be one of those people that just comes in and gets stuff handed to her.
“She wants to earn her way and work her way up through like everybody else has.”
Stewart is the only driver to earn titles both in the IRL IndyCar Series and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Although his team does not currently field any cars in the Nationwide Series, his technical affiliation with Hendrick Motorsports could pave the way for Patrick to drive cars from one of the top organisations in NASCAR, as she attempts to break into the stock car scene.

September 8th, 2009 at 1:44 amI don’t think she’ll make the switch. I mean she hasn’t really accomplished anything on the Indycar side of things whilst drivers who have are still struggling to a degree (Sam Hornish Jr as an example).

September 12th, 2009 at 3:39 pmI think it will be really tough if she makes the switch. Being on a strong team though, makes a huge difference. Andretti Green has struggled of late, so a move in IRL to Penske or Ganassi would be another option. She’s been 1 or 2 on Andretti Green, but that just gets her 5th position. NASCAR would be a ton more money, but she’s probably not hurting for money with all her endorsements. She’s already the most and least popular IRL driver. If she goes to NASCAR she’ll probably polarize even more people.

September 23rd, 2009 at 2:36 pmSorry Danica but I only see greed here. Greed for Money and greed for even more popularity. Forget about talking to Stewart, he is the only driver other than AJ Foyt to be successful moving from open wheel to tin tops. Danica has only one Indy car win that came from fuel saving and a well timed pit stop not out right speed and skill. Witness the Indy 500 where she was leading but could not pull off the win with speed and skill. Danica is not even in the same league as IRL champs Montoya or Franchitti or Hornish let alone muli race winners Carpentier or Allmendinger. Or even Robby Gordon, John Andretti & Scott Speed. Those are the guys she should be talking to. IMHO this move at this time would ruin what she has built up as a female driver to this point. If she even qualified for a NASCAR race she would be a back marker and would only add to the short sighted opinion that girls can’t drive as good as boys out side of drag racing.
