Leimer again on top in Jerez test
September 29th, 2011
Fabio Leimer continued to set the pace on the second and final day of GP2 testing at the Jerez circuit in Spain.
The Racing Engineering driver, who had been quickest in both of yesterday’s sessions, posted a best time of 1:26.701 this morning to end on top of the timesheets again.
Leimer was followed by Coloni’s Fabio Onidi, the Italian finishing less than two tenths behind in a very close morning session which saw a total of 14 drivers within a second.
Lotus ART’s Jules Bianchi was fastest in the afternoon, but his time was nearly second off the pace set by Leimer in the morning. The 14 quickest times of the day were in fact set in the morning session.
Nigel Melker ended the day as third quickest in the Arden car, while GP2 returnee Javier Villa completed a promising day in the Super Nova machine by posting the fourth fastest time ahead of Kevin Ceccon in the second Coloni.
Ceccon caused the first red flag of th day just after the lunch break when he spun and stopped on track. There were another three stoppages before the end of the day.
The next post-season test will take place in Barcelona on October 19-20.
