Melker heads iSport test line-up
October 13th, 2011
Nigel Melker will head iSport’s line-up of four drivers at next week’s GP2 test at Barcelona.
Dutchman Melker, a race-winner in both the F3 Euro Series and GP3 this year, impressed the Arden squad by going third quickest in the last official test at Jerez last month, and will now try-out for the British squad.
Joining Melker on the second day of the test will be Polish driver Kuba Giermaziak, who currently lies second in the Porsche Supercup with a round to go.
Marcus Ericsson, who won at the Hungaroring for iSport this year, will drive for the team on day one to evaluate suspension set-ups and will be joined by GP3 racer and F3 veteran Tom Dillmann.
“This test we will be running similar to Jerez, where we will look to put the drivers through race and qualifying runs to check their consistency and speed,” said iSport chief engineer Gavin Jones.
“We are looking forward to having Ericsson back with us and he will be experimenting with suspension developments with next year in mind. It will be Polish driver Giermaziak’s first GP2 run after a successful Porsche Supercup campaign where he currently lies 2nd, and Dillman and Melker will be carrying on from their impressive debut tests at Jerez.
“With the upcoming [non-championship] round in Abu Dhabi, most teams will have their prospective drivers in getting more mileage before the race.”
Two other teams have announced their Barcelona test line-ups.
AirAsia will run Formula Renault 3.5 front-runner Alexander Rossi on both days and give Luiz Razia – who raced for the team this year – and Rodolfo Gonzalez a day each.
Trident, meanwhile, will again run Sam Bird and Josef Kral – as at Jerez last month. The pair will be joined by Formula Renault 3.5 racer Stephane Richelmi, who tested for Ocean and Rapax at Jerez.
