Perez also given Abu Dhabi outing
January 29th, 2010
The Barwa Addax team has announced that Sergio Perez will join his main series team-mate Guido van der Garde for a one-off GP2 Asia outing at Yas Marina next week.
With the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue hosting the main GP2 championship finale this year, Addax is bringing in its full season drivers Perez and van der Garde for the Asia rounds at the circuit so they have chance to learn the track in advance.
“We think it is a good decision to let Giedo and Sergio get to know the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi better,” team boss Alejandro Agag explained. “The track has been added to the European calendar and will be the last race of the season.
“We want to fight for the championship and need to prepare ourselves well. Decisions in standings are always made at the end of the season so that’s why we made this choice.”
Perez, who took two wins for Addax in last year’s Asia series before transferring to Arden for the summer season, was delighted to get the chance to race in Abu Dhabi.
“I’m aware that this will be a very important season for me as a great part of my future will depend on my performances and for this reason I’ve prepared harder than ever,” he said.
“Racing in Abu Dhabi will mean I’ll get to know another new circuit that we’ll be racing in the championship and that I’ll start the season with more race rhythm. I appreciate all the efforts that the team are making.”
Addax ran Max Chilton and Luiz Razia in the opening GP2 Asia rounds, which took place at Yas Marina last November.
