Wallace to race Jaguar at Petit
September 25th, 2010
Andy Wallace is to race a Jaguar sportscar again after joining the RSR team’s GT2 line-up for next weekend’s Petit Le Mans.
The British driver was part of Jaguar’s factory World Sportscar squad in the Group C days, winning Le Mans with the company in 1988 and the Daytona 24 Hours in 1990.
He will join former Dyson team-mate Butch Leitzinger and Tomy Drissi in RSR’s #33 car at Petit, with team boss Paul Gentilozzi – who had originally planned to be the third driver in this entry – moving back to the #75 car alongside full season drivers Marc Goossens and Ryan Dalziel.
“For me to get back behind the wheel of a Jaguar racer, and drive for the brand again after all these years, is really going to be special,” said Wallace.
“I have been following the JaguarRSR team all year, and to take the might of the Porsche, Ferrari, and the rest of the fierce GT2 competition is not an easy task.
“And yet, race by race the JaguarRSR XKR GT2 is getting better and better, so I am really thrilled to be a part of this programme and hope I can contribute to a good result.”
RSR’s Jaguar project has struggled to make an impact this season, but Gentilozzi hopes the expansion to two cars for Petit and recruitment of drivers like Wallace will make a turning point.
“We are very excited to welcome Andy to the team,” he said. “He is a world-class driver, and has a wealth of knowledge not only in sports cars, but also the Jaguar brand.
“As we focus on a good run in the Petit Le Mans for both cars, we also look at this as the start of our attack for 2011.
“Having such a talented, well-rounded driver line-up is only going to help us get the Jaguar where it belongs, at the top of its class.”
