Shedden puts Honda on pole again
April 30th, 2011
Gordon Shedden gave Honda its third consecutive British Touring Car pole position by topping Thruxton qualifying this afternoon.
Eurotech Racing’s Andrew Jordan had been quickest in the first part of the session, with aggressive kerb attacking in his Vauxhall Vectra resulting in a 1m17.066s.
But Shedden pipped Jordan with a second run, recording 1m17.004s to follow team-mate Matt Neal’s two poles at Brands Hatch and Donington Park.
Neal was another to improve his times in the second part of the session, but had to settle for third in his Civic.
Tom Chilton was three quarters of a second behind Shedden, but will still line up fourth in his Arena Motrosport Ford Focus.
Reigning champion Jason Plato led the normally aspirated entries with fifth, almost a second slower than the poleman.
The RML Chevrolet driver was nevertheless happy with his effort. “I’m really pleased,” said Plato. “That was a stellar lap.”
Tom Onslow-Cole again showed the potential of the AmD Milltek VW Golf by completing the top six, three places higher than the similarly-engined Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon of Tom Boardman.
Championship leader James Nash, on his first touring car visit to Thruxton, rounded out the top 10 in his Triple 8 Engineering Vectra.
