Huff eager to get back into title fight
September 4th, 2010
Rob Huff is eager to capitalise on his strong qualifying performance at Oschersleben to turn the World Touring Car Championship back into a four-way fight for the title.
He qualified second for Sunday’s first race and although Augusto Farfus has pole, the Brazilian is working to help BMW team-mate Andy Priaulx’s chances.
Championship leader Yvan Muller and closest rival Gabriele Tarquini have pulled clear in the standings, but were only sixth and eighth fastest in qualifying today.
Huff was half a second clear of everyone in the dry Q1, until rain mixed things up in the Q2 shootout session. But he is confident in his Chevrolet’s pace whatever the weather.
“We’ve been quick all day in every condition, but for me I’d rather have it wet,” he said. “The Chevrolet is very quick in the wet.
“I’m just about still in the championship fight so I’ve got to be sensible, but at the same time I really need the extra points for winning.”
Farfus says he will be supporting Priaulx, who lies third in the championship between Tarquini and Huff, 16 points behind Muller.
“I have to be realistic, I am quite far down the points,” Farfus said. “It’s not mathematically impossible, but it will be nearly impossible to get there.
“Andy is very close, so we have to work well together to bring the most points home. We are working for the brand, for the manufacturers’ [title] and the drivers’ [title] for Andy.”
