Huff says 2011 his finest year
November 20th, 2011
Rob Huff said he had every reason to be proud of his achievements in the World Touring Car Championship this season, despite missing out on the title by just three points.
The Briton did all he could to overhaul Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller in Macau, and duly won both races, but it was not enough to prevent his rival walking away with a third title.
Although disappointed about not claiming the championship for himself, Huff reckoned he had delivered his best motor racing campaign in 2011.
“It has been a fantastic weekend and a fantastic year,” he said. “I think certainly my strongest. Someone told me once that championships are won with consistency, so to finish every single race in the points, I have to be happy with that.
“I think I learned a lot from Yvan last year, learned a bit more this year and Alain [Menu] has brought a lot to the table as well. I want to thank Yvan and Alain for working so well with us – and unfortunately we have to do it all again next year!”
Huff said he was not aware of where Muller was in the second race, and said that all he was thinking about was delivering the victory that would at least give him a chance of title glory.
“I didn’t even think about it, I didn’t want to know anything from my engineer,” said Huff about the championship situation in the second race.
“I just wanted to concentrate on getting to the front and doing what I needed to do this weekend, which was to put it on pole position and win both races. I did everything I possibly could.
“It has been a great year for RML Chevrolet – they are the ones who have given us the opportunity to do what we do. It has been incredible.”
