Penalties for 15 drivers in Germany
September 6th, 2010
Time penalties were handed out to 12 drivers after the first World Touring Car race at Oschersleben on Sunday.
They were all adjudged to have broken the 90kmh speed limit as they approached the start/finish line for the race’s rolling start.
The top three finishers, Alain Menu, Augusto Farfus and Yvan Muller, were unaffected. The only significant changes were that Tiago Monteiro and Andy Priaulx moved up a place each to fourth and fifth at the expense of Tom Coronel.
The penalised drivers were Coronel, Michel Nykjaer, Norbert Michelisz, Kristian Poulsen, Sergio Hernandez, Fredy Barth, Jordi Gene, Franz Engstler, Mehdi Bennani, Stefano D’Aste, Andrei Romanov and Yukinori Taniguchi.
Three more drivers, Gabriele Tarquini, Fabio Fabiani and Darryl O’Young, were found guilty of the same offence but had retired from the race anyway.
Monteiro and Romanov also received 30-second penalties in race two, for hitting Michelisz and Taniguchi respectively. Both had finished outside the points anyway.
Rob Huff was also given a suspended 10-place grid penalty for pushing Michelisz wide in race two.
