Bottas leads FR3.5 test contenders
October 7th, 2011
GP3 champion Valterri Bottas heads an influx of new drivers set to try Formula Renault 3.5 at the first post-season collective test of 2011 at Barcelona on October 11-12.
The Finn, who has been linked with a move into the series next year, will test with former champions Tech 1 Racing on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
“I don’t know if he will be racing for us next year,” said Tech 1 team boss Simon Abadie, “but I can hope.”
Bottas will be joined at the Toulouse team by Tech 1′s regular 2011 driver Kevin Korjus and British Formula 3 race winner Lucas Foresti.
Fellow British Formula 3 competitor Colombian Carlos Huertas is set to sample Fortec machinery alongside the team’s Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup star Will Stevens.
GP3 racers Rio Haryanto and Nico Muller are earmarked for runs with Epic Racing, with Muller also set to test with another leading team.
Comtec’s 2010 FR3.5 winter testing pacesetter Adrian Quaife-Hobbs will return to the Norfolk team. The test forms part of the GP3 title contender’s preparations for his Abu Dhabi young driver Formula 1 test with Virgin. British F3′s Adderly Fong will occupy the second Comtec second car.
Pons Racing will field GP3 runner Zoel Amberg and F3 Euro Series driver Daniel Abt. Italian Vittorio Ghirelli will join 18-year-old Russian Nikolai Martsenko, who competed in this year’s German F3 championship, with Italian squad BVM Target.
Former champion team Draco is set to test its ex-driver Nathanael Berthon, Comtec’s 2011 regular Daniel de Jong, Auto GP race-winner Giovanni Venturini and Italian F3 competitor Andrea Roda.
P1 Motorsport will partner Walter Grubmuller with 2011 Tech 1 driver Arthur Pic. Russian Anton Nebylitskiy will be joined at KMP Racing by Formula 2 man Benjamin Lariche.
Mofaz will not attend the test, having announced today that it will close its doors at the end of the championship, while Gravity-Charouz and Carlin were reluctant to announce their drivers at this time.
