Maiden Euro Series win for Rosenqvist
October 22nd, 2011
Felix Rosenqvist finally claimed his maiden F3 Euro Series victory with a commanding performance in race two at Hockenheim.
Starting seventh on the reversed grid, the Swede took advantage of Daniel Juncadella’s stall and a slow start by his Mucke Motorsport team-mate Nigel Melker to climb to third by the first corner.
He then passed Daniel Abt under braking for the hairpin two turns later and closed in on leader Carlos Munoz, whom he overtook on lap three.
With Signature driver Munoz then receiving a drive-through penalty for a jumped start, and Roberto Merhi kept at arms’ length, Rosenqvist completed a victory that made him the first Swede to win in the Euro Series and added to his win at the Masters of F3 this year.
New champion Merhi finished second in his Prema car, with Abt holding off his Signature team-mate Marco Wittmann for a rare podium finish.
After his poor getaway Melker finished fifth with Prema man Juncadella passing Kimiya Sato’s Motopark car late on to salvage sixth, the Spaniard having fallen to 12th on the opening lap.
Sato and his team-mate Jimmy Eriksson, Laurens Vanthoor (Signature) and Facundo Regalia (Mucke) completed the top 10.
Munoz slipped to 13th thanks to his penalty and later spun out; beaching his car on the kerbs at the Sachs Kurve. Carlos Sainz Jr was another retiree after clipping a spinning Gianmarco Raimondo at the hairpin and knocking off a wheel.
