Brent Grabs First ARCA Victory
July 31st, 2010
LONG POND, Pa. — Robb Brent knew he had a good opportunity to claim his first career victory in the ARCA Racing Series Weis Markets 125 at Pocono Raceway if he didn’t make a mistake.
He had a car with an impeccable setup, which helped him become the ninth first-time winner in ARCA competition this season.
And he had a comfortable lead over Dakoda Armstrong’s Ferrellgas Dodge and Craig Goess — winner of the June 5 race at the triangle-shaped facility — in the closing laps.
He just had to bring it home.
No problem there. Brent cruised to a 2.844-second victory in his No. 36 Orchard Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Dodge from his 11th-place starting position.
“I’m just thrilled to death,” Brent said. “When everyone else kept winning, I was like when is it going to be my turn? We had some great cars, we just didn’t have the finishes to show for it. But today everything worked exactly right for us. We got our yellow when we needed it, the long green flag run when we needed it…. I owe the crew everything. The setup was perfect, I just had to drive it.”
That’s no surprise to Brent.
When the series raced at Pocono Raceway in June, Mikey Kile’s No. 25 and Craig Goess, in his Eddie Sharp Racing Toyota appeared to have the two fastest cars in the field. But according to Brent, he had the fastest car in June as well.
“If you watched the whole thing last time, I think I had the fastest car here,” Brent said. “But we got caught a lap down pitting.”
This time, everyone took notice.
Armstrong finished second, Goess third, Tom Hessert fourth and Justin Marks rounded out the top five.
