Ordonez joins Greaves for Le Mans
January 30th, 2012
Lucas Ordonez has joined Greaves Motorsport for this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours and Le Mans Series.
The 26-year-old Spaniard will drive one of Greaves’ Nissan-engined Zytek prototypes as the British squad bids to win the LMS and repeat its LMP2 class victory at Le Mans.
Ordonez, a graduate of the Playstation GT Academy, will share the Zytek with Martin and Alex Brundle at Le Mans, while Tom Kimber-Smith and Brundle Jr will be his co-drivers in the LMS.
Le Mans will be his only World Endurance Championship appearance of 2012, the team having previously announced that Elton Julian, Christian Zugel and Ricardo Gonzalez would form its regular WEC line-up.
“2011 was an incredible year for me,” said Ordonez, who was part of the driver line-up that won the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup LMP2 title for Signatech last year.
“I learned a lot with Signatech Nissan. They believed in me and trusted me to get the job done. Nissan has set me my next challenge: an overall championship victory. With two top team-mates and a championship-winning team I am aiming to win the Le Mans Series outright.
“The Le Mans 24 Hours will again be a big challenge for me and I’m very much looking forward to racing with Martin (Brundle) as I will learn a lot from him. With Martin, Alex and myself I think we will have one of the strongest line-ups in LMP2. It feels great to be able to say that!”
Jordan Tresson, another graduate of Nissan’s Playstation GT Academy, will step up to prototype racing this year after helping RJN to the teams’ title in the Blancpain Endurance Series in 2011.
The 23-year-old Frenchman takes over Ordonez’s seat at the Signatech squad, which will again run a Nissan-engined LMP2 ORECA in the World Endurance Championship.
