Scotland reveals more route details
May 13th, 2011
Rally of Scotland clerk of the course Iain Campbell has revealed more details of the route for this October’s event.
Campbell has confirmed a switch of start and finish venues for the third running of Britain’s round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, with Stirling Castle replacing Scone Palace as the start on Friday October 7. The event will end on Sunday October 9 with two runs around Scone.
The crews will contest three stages in the dark, going straight from the start at the Castle into a new stage in Carron Valley, close to the town of Denny. The drivers will tackle this test twice, starting at 1930 on Friday night.
Saturday and Sunday remain similar to last year’s event. Saturday means a return to Perthshire and the Craigvinean, Drummond Hill and Errochty stages. The second run through Drummond Hill will be in the dark.
Sunday is based around the infamous Loch Ard test, just north of Glasgow, with only a remote service. The event finishes in Scone, with the podium ceremony close to the Stone of Destiny, where Scottish monarchs were crowned.
“This is going to be a great rally,” said Campbell. “We’ve got a real treat for the spectators in Carron Valley on Friday night, this is going to start the event with a real test. They guys will be in the dark straight from the start, somebody could make a good gap here if they’re willing to push. And for the spectators, they’ll see the crews coming through twice. The first stage starts at 1930, with the second run filtering in at 1955.
“Drummond Hill in the dark could be another stage which sorts them out, and the likes of Errochty and Loch Ard are always classics. We’ve tweaked some of the stages, so they’re not identical to last year, but we are delighted with what we’ve got.”
The event includes 15 stages and 125 competitive miles.
