Star Mazda Schedule Announced

PACOIMA, Calif. — The Star Mazda Championship Series will embark on a 10-weekend, 11-race schedule next season, including combination weekends with the IZOD IndyCar Series, American Le Mans Series and USAC.
“Next year will be our 21st season of competition and this schedule represents a huge step forward for the Star Mazda Championship, and more big announcements to come in the next few days,” said series founder and CEO Gary Rodrigues. “Our mission is to provide the top young racers from around the world with the most comprehensive education and most high-profile opportunities available in any driver development program in the world today. In concert with the announcements soon to be made, the Star Mazda Championship will be the logical place for any serious driver to accelerate his or her career.”
The first Star Mazda Championship Series race of the year is scheduled for March 26-27 during the IZOD IndyCar Series Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida. The next race on the schedule, slated for April, will be announced at a later date.
Three consecutive oval races follow the event in April. The series first stops at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Clermont Ind., May 27-28 for the Night Before the 500 alongside USAC. They they travel with the IZOD IndyCar Series to The Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis., June 18-19 and Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, June 24-25.
After racing at Iowa Speedway the series will return to road racing, traveling to Canada for the Grand Prix of Mosport alongside the American Le Mans Series July 22-23. The series will then take to the street circuit at Trois-Rivières in Quebec Aug. 6-7 for a two-race weekend.
From Trois-Rivières the series moves to the West Coast for the IndyCar Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., Aug. 26-27. Then it’s back to East Coast for an appearance during the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix with the IZOD IndyCar Series Sept. 3-4.
The series will finish its season with a visit to California’s Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca alongside the American Le Mans Series Sept. 16-17.
