Three of iRacing.com’s more prominent members paid a visit to the company’s Bedford, MA office last week, namely IndyCar drivers Will Power, Simona de Silverstro and Justin Wilson. The trio was on a whirlwind tour of Boston last following qualifying for the Centennial Edition of the Indianapolis 500.
After a press conference in downtown Boston, the trio was whisked out to Bedford where they were got the red carpet treatment and met with the iRacing employees.
“It was great to have the opportunity to visit the iRacing headquarters,” said Power. “The three of us agreed we couldn’t come to Boston and NOT pop-in to meet everyone at iRacing.”
“It’s pretty cool how it all turned out, with Will, Simona and myself being iRacers and drawing Boston as our destination,” said Wilson. “I really enjoyed meeting everyone, getting a tour of the office. It’s a super place and everyone made us feel very welcome.”
Power and Wilson also got the opportunity to do some laps in the iRacing Driver Development Lab, as well as test the Trinity Concepts simulator using NVIDIA 3D technology. Although Silvestro understandably declined to take any laps on the simulators (owing to the burns she suffered to her hands in a crash during practice at Indy), she too enjoyed her visit to iRacing.
“It was amazing to meet everyone and see and learn a little more about all that goes into the service,” she said. “It makes you really appreciate effort that goes into the cars and tracks, but also administering all the different races and series.”
Power, Wilson and de Silvestro are far from the only iRacers who will be racing in the 2011 edition of the Indianapolis 500. Oriol Servia, JR Hildebrand, Ed Carpernter, Thomas Scheckter, Takuma Sato and Dan Wheldon are also among the growing number of professional IndyCar drivers with iRacing experience.
