KNOXVILLE, Iowa – For the third time in his career, Jason Johnson has been named the Driver of the Year by the North American 360 Sprint Car Poll voting panel.
The Louisiana native, who captured the 2010 Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Dirt Series national tour championship and the 2006 and 2008 Driver of the Year accolades, earned 13 of the 18 first-place ballots cast in the year-end poll by media members, promoters, sanctioning officials and manufacturers. Johnson also won the Team of the Year honor after forming his own team for the 2010 season.
Trailing Johnson in the poll in second through fifth, respectively, are 2009 Driver of the Year Shane Stewart, who received two first-place votes, Brady Bacon, URC titlist Curt Michael and 2002 Driver of the Year Tim Crawley. In addition to Johnson and Stewart, other drivers receiving first-place votes are Michael, Terry Gray, who placed eighth in the poll, and Andy Forsberg, who tied for 13th with Brian Brown.
Trey Starks, the ASCS Northwest and Grays Harbor Raceway rookie standout, has been named the North American 360 Sprint Car Poll Rookie of the Year following his first full season of winged 360-cubic-inch sprint-car competition.
Builder/Manufacturer of the Year honors for 2010 are shared by Jeremy Anderson of Roush Yates Engines of North Carolina and Mark Badock and Cal Herdson of Washington-based Triple X Race Components.
Media Member of the Year accolades are also shared by Allan Holland of HoseHeads.com and the ASCS’s Lonnie Wheatley. Both Holland and Wheatley have earned the award four times.
Glenn Styres of Ontario’s Ohsweken Speedway earned his fifth Promoter of the Year award, while Nebraska ace Jack Dover received the Wild Card Award for his exciting 360 sprint-car performances in 2010.
