Get to Know: Joshua Chin
by David Ifeguni on January 14th, 2013
For this week, I interviewed a driver who is no stranger to iRacing. He has only been on iRacing for a little less than two years, but in that time he has made friends, learned a lot and more importantly has won a lot of races. He has won time trial championships and has won season championships on the road side of iRacing and has won his share of oval races as well. He is 18 and is currently attending the University of Central Florida in Orlando. The driver I interviewed for this week is the one and only Joshua Chin. Josh Chin’s first day on iRacing was April 24th, 2011. His first win came on April 25th, and since then he hasn’t stopped winning. He has started 800 races [...]
Riku’s Big Debut
by Richard Payne on November 13th, 2012
Riku Alatalo’s 16th Street Racing League debut ended with an exclamation point, as the road course ace from Finland followed up a Transfer Race win by leading flag-to-flag in a walk-off performance at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Alatalo lapped all of the online race’s 38 entrants except podium finishers Yang Ou (2nd) and Tim Holgate (3rd) and immediately moved to fifth-place in the 16th Street overall championship standings, and to the top of the International Light Technologies road championship. It was Yang and Holgate who were expected to be amongst a select few to challenge for Tuesday night’s race win, but Riku’s surprise appearance in Monday’s open practice session quickly threw another contender into the road course mix. The result was a much-needed bounce back effort for Yang and Holgate, [...]
Indy 250: Paquin wins, Ou is Champion
by Niles Anders on January 20th, 2011
Defending 16th Street Racing League Indy 250 winner John Paquin led the most laps in route to a second consecutive victory in the online racing event on Tuesday evening. Just as he did last season, Paquin demonstrated he had the best-prepared Indianapolis machine and made anyone who wanted to lead challenge him for the position, leading 70 laps en route to a dominant victory at the virtual Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Still, Paquin did not have it all his own way. Series points leader Yang Ou turned-up the wick and took the lead on Lap 89 and made Paquin work to get it back over the final 11 laps. On Lap 99 the leaders touched, sending Yang into the wall and out of the race. PJ Stergios then followed Paquin across [...]
16th Street Racing’s Indy 250 – Championship Decider – Webcast Tonight
by Niles Anders on January 18th, 2011
16th Street Racing League points leader Yang Ou is no stranger to tough finishes at Indy. Last season he finished second to John Paguin in the Indy 500 and in 2009 was second to Ilkka Haapala in the prestigious Simdy 500. He can guarantee himself the League championship with a victory Tuesday evening in the 16th Street Indy 250 presented in association with Think Geek. Web Racing Network will webcast the race tonight at 9:00pm EST on http://www.webracingnetwork.com. Yang Ou (prononuced yung oo) has been in a close championship battle for most of the season with Tim Doyle and Ryan Murray. After Ryan had qualified second for the penultimate round at the Milwaukee Mile, next to Yang on the pole, it looked like “game on.” But Ryan’s unfortunate wall-banging caused [...]
IndyCar Racing in December
by David Phillips on December 23rd, 2009
The December weather at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway may be frightful, but that’s not preventing a delightfully enthusiastic band of iRacers from racing their Dallara Indy cars. Did we say enthusiastic? Add illustrious, at least in some cases. With names like Power, Wilson and Scheckter, Bettenhausen, George and Krisiloff the entry list reads like a Who’s Who of Indy car racing, past, present and yet to come. Some are active Indy car drivers, others the sons and grandsons of some of the sport’s most legendary and influential figures, still others are rank ‘n file members of iRacing.com with names like Simpson, Doyle and Cress. Call them what you want, they call themselves the 16th Street Racing League. Thanks to iRacing.com, they get together every Wednesday evening from as far away [...]
