Abu Dhabi wants final slot to be its own
January 31st, 2010
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix chiefs are to make a push to ensure the final slot on the Formula 1 calendar becomes their own indefinitely. The inaugural event at Yas Marina was given the season finale slot last year and, although it originally lost that prestigious place to Brazil in the provisional 2010 calendar, a reshuffle of the schedule in December saw Abu Dhabi reinstated as the final event. Having welcomed that move, Yas Marina’s CEO Richard Cregan has said his event is now keen to lobby for Abu Dhabi to retain that place for the long term.

January 29th, 2010
The Barwa Addax team has announced that Sergio Perez will join his main series team-mate Guido van der Garde for a one-off GP2 Asia outing at Yas Marina next week. With the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue hosting the main GP2 championship finale this year, Addax is bringing in its full season drivers Perez and van der Garde for the Asia rounds at the circuit so they have chance to learn the track in advance
Abu Dhabi to keep pit-lane tunnel
December 28th, 2009
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix chiefs will keep the radical elements of their race – including the pit-lane tunnel and day-night timing – for 2010 despite initial scepticism about the concepts prior to its inaugural event. The Yas Marina circuit hosted this year’s season finale – but raised eyebrows beforehand when it revealed its unique tunnel pit-lane exit that goes under the track, plus plans to host the event during dusk.

F1 support races in Monaco and Turkey follow before a standalone GP2 race at the Portimao circuit in Portugal in June

Coeur d’Alene to Woking
by David Phillips on November 7th, 2009
It’s a long way from Couer d’Alene, Idaho to Brands Hatch and Silverstone; further still to Woking, Surrey. Thanks to the efforts of Brett Smrz, England seems a little closer to the Potato State these days. Together with California’s Conor DePhillippi, Smrz recently flew the red, white and blue colors of the Team USA Scholarship program at two of England’s most prestigious events for young racers: the Formula Ford Festival and the Walter Hayes Trophy. After Smrz carved his way from last to third in the FFF at Brands Hatch, DePhillippi garnered all the hardware at Silverstone, collecting the Hayes Trophy for the second year running for Team USA. Although Smrz came home ninth at Silverstone after an early incident, he collected a pole, a win and a podium in [...]

Red Bull set to extend Renault deal
November 3rd, 2009
Red Bull Racing looks set to continue using Renault engines in the 2010 season, after ruling out a possible switch to Mercedes power units. The Milton Keynes-based squad was chasing the German engines for next season and its hopes of reaching a deal were boosted when F1 rules changed to allow a manufacturer to supply units to four teams. The delay in reaching a deal, however, has been one of the main reasons why Red Bull now is set to continue with Renault for another year.
