V8s lose Abu Dhabi F1 support slot

The V8 Supercars series has lost its slot on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix support bill for 2013. The Australian championship had included a race alongside Formula 1 at Yas Marina when it originally announced its schedule, but the addition of GP2 and GP3 to the event has meant there is no longer room for V8s. Series chief David Malone said he accepted Formula One Management’s decision
BMW won’t rest on its laurels in 2013

BMW will have to work harder than ever before to defend its DTM titles next year, according to the manufacturer’s motorsport director Jens Marquardt. The Munich manufacturer this year competed in the series for the first time since 1992 and stunned the establishment by guiding Bruno Spengler to the drivers’ title with four wins during the season. With Augusto Farfus taking the Rookie of the Year prize and Schnitzer Motorsport and BMW taking the teams’ and manufacturers’ awards, BMW won every possible award in the championship.
Eastern Creek dropped from calendar

Waltrip elated with first Chase spots

Michael Waltrip has lauded his team for achieving a double Chase seeding in this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup – the first time his outfit has entered the championship play-off. In the team’s sixth year at the top level of NASCAR, both Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr had already guaranteed themselves spots in this year’s Chase heading into the regular season’s final round at Richmond. Lotus reshuffles management team

New British team joins Auto GP grid

Silverstone has received planning permission for its ‘masterplan’, the latest stage in its major revamp programme. Recent years have seen the track layout heavily revised, and a new pit and paddock complex constructed between Club and Abbey, where the start/finish straight is now located
De la Rosa to join HRT from 2012

Pedro de la Rosa will return to Formula 1 racing with HRT next season after signing a two-year deal with the squad. The 40-year-old Spaniard is currently a reserve driver for McLaren, but said he was determined to return to racing.
IndyCar close to confirming China

IndyCar is close to confirming the addition of a race in China to its 2012 schedule. The series has been in talks about a Chinese event for some time, and president of IndyCar’s commercial division Terry Angstadt said that a deal for a race in the eastern port city of Qingdao, which hosted the sailing events for the 2008 Olympics, was on the verge of being finalised.
Fontana returns to IndyCar calendar

The IndyCar series will return to the Auto Club Speedway for a night race in 2012, it was announced on Tuesday. The two-mile oval circuit hosted CART races from 1997 to 2002 and IndyCar events from 2002 to 2005, before it was dropped from the calendar. “We feel the time is right to bring IndyCar racing back to Auto Club Speedway,” said Randy Bernard, chief executive officer of INDYCAR.
Coulthard keen to race on in 2012

David Coulthard says that the addition of new manufacturers in the DTM increases the possibility of him staying in the championship for the long-term. BMW has already confirmed that it will return to the series in 2012, and several other manufacturers such as Opel and Nissan have been linked to joining the grid. Representatives from the DTM met with several Asian manufacturers following the championship’s season finale in Shanghai in November, and it is expected that the 2012 season will kick off with at least four manufacturers competing.

Audi, Mercedes welcome BMW entry

Audi and Mercedes have welcomed the addition of BMW to the DTM grid from 2012. Audi motorsport boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich and Mercedes motorsport chief Norbert Haug say their brands are looking forward to competing against BMW, and believe the presence of a third manufacturer will help to cement the series’ long-term strength. “The fact that BMW is coming back in the DTM is great news for the fans,” Ullrich said.
Austria back on DTM schedule in ’11

A return to Austria after an eight-year absence and the addition a non-championship stadium event in Munich are the main changes in next year’s DTM calendar, which was announced today. The Austrian Grand Prix venue in Spielberg/Zeltweg has been heavily redeveloped in recent years and will be reopened next season under the Red Bull Ring title. The DTM will be one of its first major events, with the touring car series set to visit for its third 2011 round on 5 June next year.
V8 Supercars to race in Abu Dhabi

The Australian-based V8 Supercar series has clinched a deal to stage its season opener at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue Yas Marina for three years from 2010. The inaugural race will be held on 18-20 February next season, with the V8s’ Bahrain round moved from the tail end of the season to form a Middle Eastern double header with Abu Dhabi one week later
