Horner positive after RB8 track debut
February 7th, 2012
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner is upbeat about his car’s progress during the first day of the Jerez test, hailing the new RB8′s first day on track as ‘positive’. Although it is too early to read anything into the overall laptimes, with Mark Webber fourth fastest, eight tenths of a second off Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen, Horner was encouraged that the RB8 was performing as hoped. “It has been a positive first day,” said Horner when asked by AUTOSPORT whether the car was performing as expected

McLaren will be ready for first test
December 19th, 2011
McLaren will have its new car ready for the first test of 2012, after the team confirmed on Monday it will be launched on 1 February. With tougher crash test regulations in place for next year, allied to a two-week gap between the first and second test, it had been expected that a number of outfits could choose to delay the launch of their new cars to make the most of extra development time. However, McLaren’s announcement that the MP4-27 will be ready for the opening test at Jerez, which takes place from February 7-9, means the team follows Ferrari and Red Bull Racing in opting to get running as early as possible.
Al-Attiyah to defend Dakar crown
December 6th, 2011
Nasser Al-Attiyah will defend his Dakar Rally title in January in a Hummer run by Team Robby Gordon. The 40-year-old Qatari won the 2011 event for Volkswagen after triumphing in a tight battle with his team-mate Carlos Sainz, but looked likely to miss next year’s rally after the team pulled out of desert raids to focus on its World Rally Championship programme. However, he has secured a late deal to drive a second Hummer alongside team owner Gordon, and will carry the number 300, which is usually reserved for former winners in such a situation
Hildebrand and Kimball retain rides
November 16th, 2011
JR Hildebrand will remain with Panther Racing until at least the end of the 2013 IndyCar Series season after the team confirmed it had taken its option up on the 23-year-old Californian. Hildebrand finished runner-up in the Rookie of the Year standings behind Newman/Haas driver James Hinchcliffe and would have won his maiden Indianapolis 500 had he not crashed on the final turn, handing victory to the late Dan Wheldon
Pirro on pole as Bradl confirms title
November 5th, 2011
Gresini Racing earned a poignant one-two on the Valencia Moto2 grid with Michele Pirro and Yuki Takahashi, as Stefan Bradl wrapped up the 2011 championship through Marc Marquez’s absence. Although Bradl’s title rival Marquez had announced on Friday that he would not be fit to race at Valencia following his Sepang qualifying crash, his team left the door open to a late recovery, leaving Bradl uncertain whether he really could celebrate the championship or not. But with Marquez sitting out qualifying and confirming that his optic nerve injury would not allow him to ride at all this weekend, Bradl can go into tomorrow’s season finale knowing his points tally cannot be beaten and the title is sealed

The new car was unveiled during the final pre-season test at Barcelona but did not actually run, meaning that the Indian – who returns to Formula 1 for the first time since 2004 – and his team-mate Vitantonio Liuzzi have six hours running time between them on Friday to sort out any new-car niggles with the chassis
