Webber: new type of racing less exciting
June 17th, 2013
Mark Webber thinks that Formula 1′s more experienced drivers are struggling to get much satisfaction from the state of racing at the moment. With tyres becoming such a dominant factor in 2013, Webber believes that the way that degradation has to be managed through a race has taken away some of the pleasure of battling wheel-to-wheel
Canada qualifying quotes: Pirelli
June 8th, 2013
Paul Hembery: “As has so often been the case in the past in Canada, today was all about rain: which is frequently what makes this such an exciting and unpredictable race.
Ferrari identifies Alonso DRS fault
April 24th, 2013
Ferrari says it has identified an unprecedented mechanical failure that caused Fernando Alonso’s DRS problem in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Alonso was running second when his DRS flap jammed open early in the race. He pitted for the issue to be rectified, but although Ferrari felt it had been fixed, it reoccurred as soon as he tried to deploy DRS again.
China qualifying quotes: Pirelli
April 13th, 2013
Paul Hembery, motorsport director: “It’s clear that tyre strategy is going to play a key role tomorrow and we saw that in qualifying today. With a difference of around 1.5 seconds between the medium and the soft tyre, qualifying on the softer compound was the natural choice in terms of outright time. However, the soft tyre delivers its best in qualifying over just one lap – a little bit like a qualifying tyre – which is why the drivers left it until late in many of the sessions to go out and set a time
Pirelli hopes to help F1 funding woe
January 28th, 2013
Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli believes it can help teams overcome mounting concerns about costs in the sport. Following the demise of HRT, and amid a worldwide financial slowdown, there are now worries that the high cost of the change of regulations in 2014 could leave teams struggling to secure the necessary budget
IndyCar adds restart safeguards
June 21st, 2012
IndyCar has introduced an additional safeguard for adjudicating restarts in an effort to reduce the likelihood of a repeat of the penalty issued erroneously to Ganassi’s Scott Dixon at Milwaukee last weekend. The New Zealander was dealt a drive-through penalty for jumping a restart, despite the affected restart being waved off moments later

Suzuki delighted with Bautista’s race
July 17th, 2011
Suzuki team boss Paul Denning says Alvaro Bautista’s seventh place in Germany was an important step forward and shows that the squad is getting closer to the lead pace. Bautista defeated the two factory Ducatis to take the position, behind the four factory-specification Hondas and the two works Yamahas – defeat having been left battered by a heavy crash in the warm-up. “I think we showed this weekend at Sachsenring – a track that has traditionally been very tough for Suzuki – that both the GSV-R and the rider have made good steps in 2011 – despite the bad luck and huge injury at the start of the season,” Denning said
Hamilton ‘fully committed’ to McLaren
March 25th, 2011
Lewis Hamilton says he remains fully committed to his future at McLaren – despite facing the prospect of starting another season on the backfoot after a troubled winter for the Woking-based team. With McLaren’s new MP4-26 having struggled for pace and reliability, there has been speculation that unless McLaren can turn around its situation and produce consistent title-winning cars then Hamilton could be tempted to look elsewhere when his contract runs out in 2012. However, ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton said that he was only thinking of a future at McLaren – and he sought out team boss Martin Whitmarsh in Melbourne to make it clear to him how focused he was on helping the Woking-based team move forward
IndyCar trims funding scheme
December 1st, 2010
IndyCar has announced that its TEAM funding system will be limited to the top 22 finishers in this year’s championship next season, rather than the top 24 as has previously been the case, in a move aimed at boosting the quality of the field. Originally introduced to assist the unified field when Champ Car was merged into the IndyCar Series in 2008, the TEAM programme gives $1.2 million in additional financial support to full-time entrants.
Schumacher expects tougher weekend
November 5th, 2010
Michael Schumacher believes Mercedes is slightly further from the frontrunners in Brazil than has been the case recently. The team has enjoyed a competitive run in the last few rounds, with Schumacher finishing in the top six in both Japan and Korea, but he thinks Mercedes might have to settle for lower positions at Interlagos. “We had two trouble-free practice sessions today and were able to complete a lot of work with the car,” said Schumacher, who was 10th today.
