Sainz gets extra FR3.5 outing at Spa
May 27th, 2013
Carlos Sainz Jr will stay with Zeta Corse in Formula Renault 3.5 for this weekend’s round at Spa after scoring points on his debut in Monaco on Sunday. The Red Bull-backed GP3 racer initially signed a one-off deal with the Italian team for last weekend so he could gain experience of the Monte Carlo circuit. However, that deal has now been extended after a weekend where the Spaniard spent most of the event running at the sharp end on his way to finishing sixth .
Webber aims to capitalise on ‘form’ GPs
May 9th, 2013
Mark Webber is confident that the upcoming run of ‘form’ races will allow him to get back into the Formula 1 world championship hunt. The Australian is already 45 points behind standings-leading team-mate Sebastian Vettel after claiming only one podium finish in the opening four races of the season. But Webber has won grands prix at five of the six circuits visited by F1 between now and the August break, with Montreal the only venue he has yet to triumph at.
Toyota sure Le Mans win is possible
May 6th, 2013
Toyota believes the form of its latest TS030 HYBRID in Saturday’s Spa 6 Hours proves it can challenge arch-rival Audi at next month’s Le Mans 24 Hours. The 2013-spec TS030, which was making its debut in the second round of the World Endurance Championship in Belgium, led the race and ran ahead of the new long-tail R18 e-tron quattro Audi before retiring with drive-train issues. Toyota had been optimistic of a victory push at Spa after its 2012-spec cars were outmatched in the WEC Silverstone opener.
Audi earns Spa WEC podium sweep
May 4th, 2013
Andre Lotterer, Marcel Fassler and Benoit Treluyer led home an Audi one-two-three victory at the Spa round of the World Endurance Championship. The winning trio and the reigning world champions had to fight back from two early setbacks, but they had the pace to overcome both two sets of team-mates and the challenge from Toyota to claim victory by over a minute ahead of Loic Duval, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish. The #1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro, which had won pole in the hands of Lotterer and Fassler, lost time at the start when Lotterer went wide at the first corner and lost out to both his sister cars and the latest Toyota TS030 HYBRID driven by Nicolas Lapierre

The roads at the Pontlieue Hairpin, the most northerly point of the first layout of the Circuit de la Sarthe used from 1923-1928, will be returned to their 1920s glory for the week of this year’s 24 Hours in June.

Ferrari: Alonso deserved the title
November 25th, 2012
Stefano Domenicali believes Fernando Alonso was the driver who deserved the world championship the most, after missing out to Sebastian Vettel in Brazil. Alonso finished second at Interlagos but Vettel’s recovery to sixth from a first lap spin that put him at the back of the field was enough for him to clinch the crown by three points. Domenicali reckons that the fact Alonso had come so close despite his costly first lap exits in Belgium and Japan was reason to feel huge disappointment about the outcome – but intense satisfaction at the job his driver had done.
Alonso: Ferrari can be proud of season
November 25th, 2012
Fernando Alonso says even if he is unsuccessful in his bid to win the Formula 1 world championship in the Brazilian Grand Prix, he and Ferrari should still be immensely proud of having taken the title fight to the season finale. The Spaniard needs to overcome a 13-point deficit to rival Sebastian Vettel at Interlagos, which means at the minimum he needs to finish on the podium if the reigning champion fails to score.
Ferrari not panicking over situation
October 15th, 2012
Ferrari insists there is no panic about its situation in the world championship, despite Fernando Alonso losing the lead to Sebastian Vettel in the Korean Grand Prix . Alonso held a 40-point advantage over the rest of the field after the summer break, but a resurgence in form by his rivals and opening lap crashes in Belgium and Japan have hurt his title prospects.
Lotus must ‘control’ Grosjean – Horner
October 7th, 2012

Grosjean ‘moving on’ from new shunt
October 7th, 2012
Romain Grosjean says he is moving on from his accident with Mark Webber, after which the Australian labelled the Frenchman a “first-lap nutcase”. Webber was livid after Grosjean sent him into a spin at the start of the race, an incident for which the Lotus driver was given a ten-second stop-and-go penalty. Grosjean has been involved in several first lap accidents this year, and was given a one-race ban after he caused a spectacular first-corner shunt in Belgium
Kobayashi celebrates ‘amazing’ podium
October 7th, 2012
Kamui Kobayashi was always confident he could finish on the Japanese Grand Prix podium once he had got through the start unscathed and still in the lead group. The Japanese driver has seen other potentially good races go awry on lap one this year – particularly in Belgium, where he qualified second but got away slowly and was caught up in the first-lap mayhem. With his Sauber team-mate Sergio Perez delivering three podium finishes already in 2013, Kobayashi was under pressure to deliver.
Lotus postpones double-DRS return
October 7th, 2012
Lotus is set to postpone further use of its double-DRS, after failing to get it to work as well as it had hoped at the Japanese Grand Prix. The Enstone-based team returned from the summer break with high hopes the design, which was tried for the first time in Germany, could hand it a good straight-line speed advantage. However, it could not race it in Belgium because of bad weather in practice and it did not get enough confidence with it in Suzuka to stick with it this weekend either
