Lorenzo blames handling for struggle

Jorge Lorenzo blamed the poor handling of his Yamaha for his disappointing ride to seventh in Sunday’s MotoGP race at Le Mans. The defending champion ran third early on behind Andrea Dovizioso and race winner Dani Pedrosa but dropped back substantially as the race progressed. The Spaniard, who is now 17 points behind his compatriot Pedrosa’s Honda in the championship, said he was struggling everywhere on the circuit and he would have crashed if he had pushed any harder
Lorenzo settles dilemma over chassis

Jorge Lorenzo says MotoGP’s Jerez test has helped settle his dilemma between using Yamaha’s existing chassis and its new-spec version. The Spaniard was testing just a day after claiming a bitter third place in the Spanish Grand Prix, having been hit by Marc Marquez on the final corner of the last lap .

Ben Spies admits a fall on the second day of MotoGP testing at Sepang left him having to contend with shoulder spasms across the final two days. Spies was forced to miss his final two races of 2012 after a heavy crash in last year’s race at Sepang left him with an AC shoulder separation, a cracked rib and bruising to the lung.

Cal Crutchlow believes he and Tech 3 will be hard-pressed to emulate their 2012 MotoGP success due to the factory support Honda’s two satellite squads will receive this year. Crutchlow became the first Briton to stand on the rostrum of a premier class grand prix when he finished third at Brno last year. Tech 3 meanwhile ended the year a clear third in the teams’ championship, behind only the works Honda and Yamaha squads.

Marc Marquez has played down the significance of his strong showing in MotoGP testing at Sepang, despite finishing the day delighted with his progress. The Moto2 champion, making his MotoGP debut this year with the Honda team, finished the first day of testing in Malaysia third quickest, less than half a tenth of a second behind team-mate and pacesetter Dani Pedrosa. Marquez, who had not ridden the bike since the end of last year, insisted he still has a long way to go despite his promising pace.
Cardion reveals its first CRT machine

Cardion AB has revealed the Aprilia ART with which it will contest the CRT class of this year’s MotoGP championship. The team had run a satellite Ducati since stepping into the premier class in 2011, but as AUTOSPORT reported back in September it elected to switch into CRTs for the forthcoming season. Czech rider Karel Abraham, who suffered a frustrating, injury-laden 2012 , will once again lead the single-bike effort.
Honda reveals 2013 MotoGP contender

Honda has unveiled the new-liveried 2013 MotoGP bike with which Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez will contest this year’s MotoGP world championship. Dubbed the RC213V, the bike was revealed at Repsol’s Madrid headquarters. 2013 marks the 19th year of the Japanese marque’s partnership with the oil giant.

Tech 3 boss praises Smith test debut

Tech 3 team boss Herve Poncharal reckons Bradley Smith looked ‘immediately at home’ on his MotoGP test debut this week. Smith will join fellow Briton Cal Crutchlow at Yamaha’s satellite MotoGP team next season after seven years in the 125cc and Moto2 feeder categories. Although rain marred the Valencia winter test, Smith was able to complete 16 laps in the damp on Wednesday then 27 laps on a dry track.
Marquez accepts decision not to run

Marc Marquez accepted Honda’s decision to postpone the first test of his MotoGP career until conditions improve at Valencia. The Moto2 champion was scheduled to make his debut as Casey Stoner’s replacement in the factory Honda line-up during the first day of post-season testing at the Spanish track on Tuesday. But amid rain and cold conditions, Honda chose not to run at all, and will instead hope for better weather on Wednesday
Crutchlow accepts blame for fall

Cal Crutchlow reckons he was culpable for the mistake which led to him crashing out of second in a treacherous Valencia finale. Having opted to start from the pitlane following a last-minute switch to slicks, the Briton fought his way through the field and was running second when, seven laps from the finish, he lost the front of his bike heading into the final turn. It was his third retirement in the last four races, all of which he has exited while in podium contention.
