Vettel frustrated by team politics
July 12th, 2010
Sebastian Vettel has expressed his own frustration at the continued politics surrounding his team – in the wake of the favouritism row that overshadowed Red Bull Racing’s British Grand Prix triumph. Vettel found himself thrust into the centre of a media and fan backlash at Silverstone after Red Bull Racing chiefs put a new front wing on his car for qualifying – having taken it off team-mate Mark Webber’s.
Mercedes still eyeing wins this year
July 12th, 2010
Nico Rosberg’s podium finish in the British Grand Prix has reignited his team’s belief that it can win races and challenge for the ‘best of the rest’ tag behind Red Bull Racing and McLaren this year. That is the view of Mercedes GP CEO Nick Fry, who is convinced that his outfit’s season is now back on track after the tyre and blown-diffuser troubles it faced in Valencia a fortnight ago.
Webber says win made ‘sweeter’ by row
July 12th, 2010
Mark Webber has admitted that his British Grand Prix victory tasted ‘sweeter’ because Red Bull Racing had moved to favour team-mate Sebastian Vettel with a new front wing. Red Bull Racing controversially opted to take a new front wing design off Webber’s car minutes before qualifying and put it on Vettel’s machine – because his own had broken during the final free practice session. Although team principal Christian Horner insisted that the differences between the two wing versions were minor, and only affected driving characteristics, sources have revealed that there was both a lap time and a weight difference between the two versions.
McLaren not relying on Red Bull fallout
July 12th, 2010
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh says his team is not going to rely on Red Bull Racing getting ripped apart by its internal divisions – even though he thinks the favouritism row that has engulfed his title rivals is now an unwelcome distraction for the Milton Keynes-based outfit. Red Bull Racing is facing a crunch few days to try and put a lid on the row that has erupted between Mark Webber and the team management over its decision to swap front wings on its cars before qualifying at the British Grand Prix.
It’s All Webber At Silverstone
July 11th, 2010
By Dan Knutson NSSN Correspondent SILVERSTONE, Great Britain — “Fantastic,” Mark Webber radioed the Red Bull team on the cool down lap after he stormed to a dominant victory in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. “Not bad for a number two driver!” Team boss Christian Horner replied: “Well done Mark, you can smile now!” Webber had been seething rather than smiling during the previous 24 hours as he was incensed that the Red Bull gave his teammate Sebastian Vettel priority “number one driver” treatment
Red Bull vows to clear air with Webber
July 11th, 2010
Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner has assured Mark Webber that the team will move to clear the air with him over the front wing row that has engulfed the outfit – even though he has no personal regrets about the decisions he took at the British Grand Prix. Race winner Mark Webber was furious that Red Bull Racing opted to take a new front wing design off his car and hand it to team-mate Sebastian Vettel for qualifying at Silverstone.
Sutil unimpressed with Vettel’s pass
July 11th, 2010
Adrian Sutil has accused Sebastian Vettel of forcing him out of the way at the end of the British Grand Prix. The two Germans had a spectacular battle in the closing laps, as Vettel recovered from his first lap delay, and Sutil tried to hang on to the seventh place he had gained with a bold move on Michael Schumacher. It took until the penultimate lap for Vettel to get past in the complex, with a move that left Sutil disgruntled.
Button delighted to recover to fourth
July 11th, 2010
Jenson Button was delighted with his fourth-place finish at the British Grand Prix after recovering from a difficult qualifying. “That was a great race, and I’m so happy to have made up 10 places,” said Button, who had struggled with his McLaren in yesterday’s grid-deciding session, finishing in 14th. “But it’s hard to overtake around here, so I knew I had to make up a lot of places off the start-line
Alonso: No regrets over Kubica move
July 11th, 2010
Fernando Alonso says he has no regrets about not having let Robert Kubica through during the British Grand Prix, despite the decision costing him a penalty.
Vettel blames clutch for poor start
July 11th, 2010
Sebastian Vettel was left lamenting his slow start in the British Grand Prix, something he reckons was down to having the wrong settings for the clutch.
Rosberg delighted with Mercedes gains
July 11th, 2010
Nico Rosberg hailed the superb progress Mercedes made for the British Grand Prix, having finished on the podium at Silverstone just one round after his team’s awful showing in Valencia.
Webber takes commanding Britain win
July 11th, 2010
Mark Webber responded to the Red Bull front wing controversy in the best way imaginable by taking a commanding British Grand Prix victory ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button. Polesitter Sebastian Vettel’s chances of victory were ruined by a first-lap puncture, although he recovered to seventh, and there was further controversy over stewarding decisions after a contentious penalty for Fernando Alonso left the Ferrari outside the points.
Wirth: Glock can beat Lotus on pace
July 11th, 2010
Virgin technical director Nick Wirth believes that Timo Glock can fight with Lotus for top new-team finish in today’s British Grand Prix based purely on pace, following a successful introduction of a significant upgrade to the VR-01. The German driver qualified three tenths behind Heikki Kovalainen, to go second fastest of the new teams and take 18th on the grid. But Wirth reckons that due to problems earlier in the weekend, it was not possible for Glock to get the most out of the new package which includes a new front wing assembly, rear wing, rear brake duct, rear diffuser, new underbody and new bodywork aero parts
Mosley: Judge Silverstone on passing
July 11th, 2010
Former FIA president Max Mosley believes Silverstone’s new revisions can only be judged a success or failure by how much overtaking there is in the British Grand Prix. Silverstone is using its new Arena circuit layout for the first time this weekend – but the changes designed to improve the venue have not drawn that many positive comments from the drivers.
FIA approves safety car alterations
July 11th, 2010

Kovalainen: Webber right to feel ‘hurt’
July 11th, 2010
Heikki Kovalainen believes that Mark Webber has every reason to feel ‘hurt’ by the way Red Bull Racing opted to swap front wings on its cars at the British Grand Prix. A new front wing design was taken off Webber’s RB6 before qualifying and handed to team-mate Sebastian Vettel – prompting a fresh favouritism controversy at the Red Bull outfit
Massa predicts stronger race pace
July 10th, 2010
Felipe Massa is expecting a stronger showing at the British Grand Prix tomorrow after a difficult qualifying on Saturday. “I think for sure the car should be much better in the race compared to qualifying so I look forward to another strong performance tomorrow,” Massa said
Kubica surprised by performance
July 10th, 2010
Robert Kubica admitted he was surprised by his performance in qualifying for the British Grand Prix after finishing in sixth position. The Renault driver was struggling with a lack of grip around Silverstone, but he still found the speed to make it to Q3 and qualify on the third row. “I am bit surprised about being P6 because we were struggling quite a lot
McLaren: Wing row could hurt Red Bull
July 10th, 2010
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh reckons the favouritism row engulfing Red Bull Racing could start hurting the team’s performance on track. Red Bull has been forced to defend its decision to remove a new front wing from Mark Webber’s car and hand it to team-mate Sebastian Vettel for qualifying for the British Grand Prix. And, on the back of the way in which the team initially supported Vettel after his collision with Webber in Turkey, before eventually admitting that neither driver was to blame – it has re-ignited suspicions that Red Bull Racing supports one of its drivers more.
