Casey Stoner insists he has no plans to return to MotoGP action, saying he cannot envisage ever having the urge to compete in the sport again.

Casey Stoner believes Marc Marquez must be given time to prove he can marry his prodigious pace with the consistency required to become a MotoGP champion. The Spaniard has been a sensation since being called up to replace the departing Stoner in Honda’s works line-up, winning at the second attempt and capturing the points lead after the third. He has also crashed several times however, including most recently at Mugello while running second with three laps to go.

Casey Stoner’s V8 Supercar team was pleased with his first day of running in Adelaide as he set top 10 times in both free practice sessions. The two-time MotoGP champion makes his debut in the second tier V8 series this weekend. The Australian set the ninth fastest time in the morning session, before ending the second session in eighth place and just 0.6 seconds off the pace.

Casey Stoner says it is almost impossible to set targets for his first season in the V8 Supercar Development Series given his lack of four-wheel experience. The two-time MotoGP champion signed a one-year deal to race a Triple 8 Holden Commodore on Saturday. Stoner has had one full-test with the team already, but said it would count for little come the start of the season and that he would need to ‘fast track’ his development as a result.

Ducati’s new MotoGP boss Bernhard Gobmeier says he will build on the team’s existing strengths rather than making a complete fresh start. Honda has revealed that Casey Stoner decided 2012 would be his MotoGP farewell as soon he won the ’11 title. HRC chief Shuhei Nakamoto said he spent several months trying to persuade the double world champion to reconsider before Stoner revealed in France last May that he would retire at the end of the year

Filippo Preziosi will be replaced as general manager of Ducati Corse as part of a wider reorganisation which will come into effect at the start of 2013. The Italian, who has been at the helm of Ducati’s MotoGP project since its 2003 race-winning debut season, will make way for Bernhard Gobmeier, former director of BMW’s World Superbike programme.

Marc Marquez accepted Honda’s decision to postpone the first test of his MotoGP career until conditions improve at Valencia. The Moto2 champion was scheduled to make his debut as Casey Stoner’s replacement in the factory Honda line-up during the first day of post-season testing at the Spanish track on Tuesday. But amid rain and cold conditions, Honda chose not to run at all, and will instead hope for better weather on Wednesday
