McLaren shares blame for quali mix-up
October 9th, 2011
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh says his team could have done a better job in advising Lewis Hamilton of his track position in qualifying, after the chicane mix-up that left him unable to complete a second run in Q3. Hamilton lost time as Mark Webber and Michael Schumacher dived past him at the chicane after he had backed up to build a gap to Jenson Button ahead of him – and he missed crossing the line before the chequered flag came out. That meant he was unable to prevent Button and Sebastian Vettel moving ahead of him on the grid, and he was deeply disappointed with what happened

Will Power has been fined US$30,000 and put on probation for the rest of the season following his outburst against IndyCar race officials at the last round at New Hampshire. The Penske driver ended up in the wall after trying to avoid Danica Patrick’s spinning car when the race was restarted in wet conditions eight laps from the end. After remonstrating with officials from inside the car, he later branded their actions as “disgraceful” during a TV interview and said that resuming the event in such conditions had put drivers in serious danger
Calado fastest as Bacheta crashes
July 29th, 2011
James Calado grabbed top spot in final seconds of the first GP3 free practice session of the weekend at the Hungaroring. The Briton was one of the final cars across the line before the chequered flag, and that meant that his lap was the last of the significant runners. Lewis Williamson and Tom Dillmann had both enjoyed very brief spells at the top, but Calado then put a significant chunk of time between himself and the field with his final lap.

The Ferrari driver has been out of action since his accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix two months ago, and he will miss his home race as he continues with his recovery. Massa will get a small consolation at the Interlagos race, however, and he will be waving the flag after Ferrari confirmed it had accepted the invitaion from the organisers.
