Paffett says yellow-flag rules wrong
May 21st, 2013
Gary Paffett believes the DTM’s yellow-flag rules are ‘wrong’, and need a serious revision before the next round at Spielberg. The HWA Mercedes driver finished third on the road at Brands Hatch last weekend, but was demoted to sixth after five seconds were added to his race time for a yellow-flag infringement. Paffett was deemed to have not slowed by the mandatory 0.5s in sector three of the Brands Indy circuit as he passed Edoardo Mortara’s stricken Audi at Clearways with 12 laps remaining.

We had some new parts and both cars were slightly different to allow us to evaluate as much as possible. We will decide tonight the best overall package to carry forward

May 10th, 2013
Valtteri Bottas declared that his upgraded Williams felt the best the car had all year in Friday practice for the Spanish Grand Prix, but still was unsure if the performance gain would be enough. After failing to score a point in the opening four races, Williams has brought a major development package to Barcelona. It remained open-minded, however, saying it also had a ‘plan B’ option if these changes did not pay off

Silverstone going ‘extra mile’ for fans
May 1st, 2013
British Grand Prix bosses have promised fans that they have done all they can to try and ensure there is no repeat of the weather-affected troubles that hit last year’s race. But they admitted on Thursday that it may take more success from Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button to secure a race-day sellout again. Silverstone had to deter fans from attending qualifying at the 2012 British GP after freak weather conditions flooded car parks and campsites

Toyota set for pole amid confusion
April 13th, 2013
Toyota looks certain to have taken pole position for Sunday’s opening round of the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone. A timing system glitch means that no official times have been issued after qualifying, but Toyota is confident that its #7 TS030 HYBRID shared by Nicolas Lapierre and Alex Wurz claimed the pole in a 20-minute prototype session held in changeable conditions. The timing problems followed the switch to a new aggregate system of qualifying under which the grid is determined by the average best two lap times of two drivers in each car.

Mercedes doubts it can repeat China win
April 5th, 2013
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says his team’s victory in last year’s Chinese Grand Prix does not mean it can realistically target the same result next week despite its encouraging start to the season. Nico Rosberg took a commanding victory from pole position at Shanghai last year. It was Mercedes’ first win since returning to Formula 1 under its own name, and Rosberg’s maiden F1 win.

Malaysia qualifying quotes: Pirelli
March 23rd, 2013
Paul Hembery – motorsport director: “We saw an interesting variety of strategies right from the beginning of Q1, with a mix of teams going out on the hard and the medium tyre. Unusually for Q1, some of the top teams also used the softer compound, in order to save new tyres for the race.
Malaysia qualifying quotes: Mercedes
March 23rd, 2013
Lewis Hamilton – 4th: I’m pretty happy with fourth place considering the conditions today. The car was not too bad in the dry but the balance could have been a lot better, then it was pretty tricky conditions in the wet during Q3. We did our lap with older tyres than the guys in front, which was a bit unfortunate, but our pace was good overall so I can’t complain
Malaysia practice quotes: Pirelli
March 22nd, 2013
Paul Hembery: “The teams experienced high ambient temperatures for the first time this year with our tyres, which was extremely useful as these are also the conditions that we would anticipate for the rest of the weekend. That includes the high risk of rain showers, as we saw halfway through FP2. “As the circuit dried towards the end of FP2, this allowed the teams to assess the crossover points between the intermediates and the slicks
Malaysia practice quotes: Mercedes
March 22nd, 2013
Nico Rosberg – 5th/7th: We worked a lot on our long run pace today, rather than being quick over one lap. As we saw in Melbourne, tyre management will be the key to success, so that’s our focus for the practice sessions. The conditions were tough out there and the heat is unbelievable
