A NASCAR appeals panel has reduced the penalties imposed on Matt Kenseth and Joe Gibbs Racing after their Kansas-winning car failed a technical inspection. Sauber to try new rear wing in Spain

Sauber will try out a new rear wing as part of an aerodynamic update package for the Spanish Grand Prix that it hopes will address the problems it has faced in the first races of the year. Mercedes warns tyre issues not gone yet

Mercedes has warned its drivers that it has not yet fully got on top of the tyre issues that have hit their race pace in the first four Formula 1 grands prix of the year. Although Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have shown strong single-lap pace in the new W04, the car’s characteristic of overheating its rear tyres has hampered its chances of delivering a win so far. Team principal Ross Brawn says progress has been made on the tyre issue, but that the outfit was not expecting the matter to have been totally sorted by next weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Nico Rosberg insists that he is not getting disheartened by his early season fortunes, even though he has slipped well behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver has retired from two of the first three races of the 2013 Formula 1 campaign, and was disappointed after Malaysia when he was given an order to hold position in the closing stages. Despite the situation, which has left him 28 points behind Hamilton in the standings, Rosberg says the fact his Mercedes is so competitive is more than adequate compensation.

Ferrari has promised it will not neglect its qualifying pace deficit despite long-run performance having become even more important with Formula 1′s 2013 tyres. Although the Italian squad qualified second and third in Malaysia, it was a second away from polesitter Sebastian Vettel. Red Bull also dominated qualifying in Australia.
