McLaren won’t race passive double DRS
January 31st, 2013
McLaren has ruled out racing a passive double DRS for the time being, because it believes bigger performance gains can be made elsewhere on the car. With Lotus having confirmed earlier this week that it hopes to race its passive double DRS this season , it had been expected that a majority of frontrunning outfits would pursue the concept for 2013. But speaking at the launch of the new McLaren MP4-28 at Woking on Thursday, McLaren technical staff reckoned that difficulties in getting a passive double DRS to work effectively had left it reluctant to devote much time to it.
Tincknell joins Fortec for Macau
October 4th, 2012
British Formula 3 race winner Harry Tincknell is to return to Fortec Motorsport for next month’s Macau Grand Prix. Tincknell, who won four reversed-grid races this season in a Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen, will join Fortec regulars and fellow Macau rookies Felix Serralles, Alex Lynn and Pipo Derani in the squad’s quartet of Dallara-Mercedes.
Lorenzo wins Aragon pole fight
September 29th, 2012
Jorge Lorenzo captured his fifth pole of the season as MotoGP qualifying built to a three-way shootout at Aragon. The Spaniard edged out championship rival Dani Pedrosa by just eight hundredths of a second, with Cal Crutchlow – on top for much of the running – a further 0.1s back in third
Stoner: Tyre woes hurting title bid
June 27th, 2012
Casey Stoner says it will be an achievement just to keep the title race alive into the closing stages of the 2012 MotoGP season given the disadvantage he feels his Honda team is now at with the latest specification Bridgestone tyre.
Latvala: Dust makes qualifying key
March 23rd, 2012
Ford World Rally Team driver Jari-Matti Latvala says qualifying will be more important than ever for next week’s Rally of Portugal, with the Finn adding dust is a major cause for concern on the Faro-based event. For the first time since it was re-introduced into the World Rally Championship – after a six-year absence – in 2007, the Rally of Portugal will include night stages.
Kobayashi: Rule changes hurt Sauber
December 6th, 2011
Kamui Kobayashi believes his Sauber team was hurt by the rule changes imposed during the 2011 season, something that he believes was the reason for the Swiss squad’s difficult second half of the campaign.
Di Resta baffled by speed deficit
November 26th, 2011
Paul di Resta has blamed the deficit to his Force India team-mate Adrian Sutil on an unexplained top speed disadvantage during Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying. The British driver qualified 11th after setting a Q2 time 0.3s slower than Sutil, who has been on impressive form all weekend, but is certain that he has a similar level of pace when the disadvantage is taken into account.
Sauber buoyed by Abu Dhabi pace
November 22nd, 2011
Peter Sauber is more encouraged about his team’s Constructors’ Championship fight with Scuderia Toro Rosso because of the speed his car showed in Abu Dhabi, than the fact it now holds a one-point advantage over its rivals. With Sauber locked in a close battle with Toro Rosso for seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship, which could be worth around $3 million in prize money, both outfits are aware of the importance of delivering a good result in Brazil this weekend. But although the Swiss squad pulled out a single point advantage in Abu Dhabi, Sauber says that more crucial than that is the fact that the C31 had the pace at the Yas Marina circuit to beat its rival
Alonso expects to recover from eighth
August 27th, 2011
Fernando Alonso believes he can still fight for victory in the Belgian Grand Prix, so long as the forecasted dry weather holds true for Sunday.
Rossi relaxed about overtaking row
May 14th, 2011
Valentino Rossi believes it is pointless for the MotoGP rulemakers to try and legislate on overtaking etiquette in the wake of recent rows over track manners. Marco Simoncelli has been at the centre of the controversy, with several riders complaining about his aggressive overtaking, and Jorge Lorenzo taking him to task over it in front of the media at Estoril a fortnight ago
Teams set to reject testing return plan
May 13th, 2011
Formula 1 teams are set to reject an offer from FIA president Jean Todt to bring back limited in-season testing from next year. Todt revealed at last weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix that he wants to bring an end to F1′s in-season testing ban – and plans to discuss the matter with teams ahead of the European Grand Prix. However, although Todt believes it makes sense for a return of some testing, teams are not convinced it will be a good move – as they fear it will simply lead to an escalation in costs

May 3rd, 2011
Luciano Bacheta has completed a late deal to join the Ralf Schumacher-affiliated RSC Mucke Motorsport team’s GP3 line-up ahead of this weekend’s season-opener in Turkey.
Simoncelli says size causing fuel issue
March 31st, 2011
Marco Simoncelli has played down the chances of him running out of fuel before the end of grands prix, but admitted he has to run a leaner engine setting in order to make it to the flag. It emerged in Qatar that the tall Italian was having fuel consumption issues, and Simoncelli acknowledged that this was blunting his Gresini Honda’s straightline performance. “At the end of the race I arrived with fuel in the tank, but the problem is that to arrive with fuel in the tank I have to go with a more lean fuel set-up, so the bike can push less,” he said.
Brabham: Sebring big test for HPD
March 8th, 2011
David Brabham says the Sebring 12 Hours will be a stern first test for HPD’s new LMP1 car, having confirmed he will return to Highcroft for the car’s debut race. The Honda arm’s new ARX-01e will not make its track testing debut until later this week, only a week before it takes on Audi and Peugeot at Sebring in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and American Le Mans Series opener.
Hirvonen feels he is back to his best
March 7th, 2011
Mikko Hirvonen believes his second place in Mexico proves that he has recovered from his poor 2010 season and is ready to mount another title challenge. The Finn fell off the pace after winning last year’s season-opener, and ended 2010 lacking in confidence and only sixth in the championship. He started this year’s World Rally Championship with another round one victory in Sweden, but this time he was able to follow it up with second in Mexico – despite running first on the road on day one, and the Citroens being quicker than Hirvonen’s Ford on this event

Kubica still confident in Renault
July 31st, 2010
Robert Kubica has faith that Renault is still on its upward development curve – despite having lost ground to frontrunners Red Bull Racing and Ferrari in recent races. The Pole played down talk before the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend that he could stage a repeat of his strong performance from Monaco – even though the track characteristics should have been well-suited to his Renault. Kubica explained that his feelings were prompted by the fact that he thinks Renault is not at as high a performance level compared to the opposition as it was in Monaco back in May
