Andrew Jordan won the second British Touring Car race at Donington Park to strengthen his bid for the overall title. The reigning Independents’ champion made a good start but couldn’t quite outdrag polesitter Gordon Shedden’s works Honda Civic to lead. Jordan’s challenge had to be put on hold as a startline clash involving James Kaye (AmD VW Golf) and David Nye (Welch Ford Focus) brought out the safety car
Webber: Vergne knew I was there

Mark Webber admitted he was sure Jean-Eric Vergne was letting him through when they tangled on lap 16 of the Chinese Grand Prix. The Red Bull came up behind the Toro Rosso at Turn 6 as Webber tried to recover from his qualifying penalty. The Australian made a late move down the inside and made contact with Vergne, spinning the Toro Rosso and breaking his own front wing
Whincup wins spectacular race two

V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup survived a last-lap collision with Mark Winterbottom to clam his first victory of the 2013 season in a spectacular second race at Pukekohe. Polesitter Fabian Coulthard jumped the start and led the opening laps knowing that a 10-second penalty would be added to his race time. He did his utmost to make a break and mitigate the penalty’s effect, but could not shake off the Triple 8 Holdens of Craig Lowndes and Whincup

Romain Grosjean and Pedro de la Rosa have escaped any sanction for their coming together during qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix. De la Rosa moved across on Grosjean on the run up to the start-finish straight after his Lotus rival attempted to dive down the inside of the slower HRT near the entry to the pits.

The United States Grand Prix stewards have decided not to take any action against Sergio Perez or Charles Pic over their collision in final practice . Pic’s Marussia was punted into a spin at Turn 7 when Sauber driver Perez tried to pass down the inside. Although Perez made his move from a long way back, Pic was on a slow lap at the time and running off the pace

Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi was guilty of an ‘idiotic’ opening lap move, according to Jenson Button. The Briton was also critical of Sergio Perez after he was forced to take evasive action when the Mexican, his future team-mate, outbraked himself down the inside at Turn 1. Having done so, however, he was then wiped out two corners later as Kobayashi barrelled off Nico Rosberg and into his McLaren.

Folger takes first win at tricky Brno

Jonas Folger claimed his first Moto3 victory with a dominant ride in tricky conditions at Brno. Overnight rain led to a greasy, patchy surface for the start of the race, prompting some – most notably Efren Vazquez – to gamble on wets. The conditions also forced the championship’s main protagonists to be cautious, the front order hugely mixed as a result

Marquez takes commanding victory

Marc Marquez delivered a peerless performance to claim his fourth victory of the Moto2 season in the German Grand Prix. The Monlau Suter poleman held his advantage away from the start and thereafter came under serious threat only when title rival Andrea Iannone (Speed Master Speed Up), who had started 10th, managed to close onto his tail on the fourth lap. The pair remained locked together for the next two laps, and when Iannone dived down the inside at Turn 12 – with Marquez seizing the initiative back almost immediately – it appeared to set the stage for a showdown between the pair.
Haryanto handed grid penalty

Rio Haryanto has been given a five-place grid penalty for the next GP2 race at Silverstone following his collision with James Calado whilst the duo fought for the lead of Sunday’s sprint race at Valencia. The Carlin driver hit Calado at the chicane as tried to go down the inside of ART machine. The Indonesian was forced to retire after clattering over the kerbs and then also the wall.
Franchitti earns pole in Iowa heats

Dario Franchitti will start Saturday night’s IndyCar Series race at Iowa Speedway from pole position after winning the final qualifying heat race at the 7/8th mile oval. Franchitti (Ganassi) started from second on the grid behind Marco Andretti, but passed the Andretti Autosport driver around the outside on lap five to take the lead. Andretti lost another place to Penske’s Helio Castroneves a couple of laps later, but the Brazilian was unable to make any dent in Franchitti’s lead and settled for second, which is still enough for a front-row grid spot on Saturday

Stewards cancel Marquez’s penalty

The FIM stewards have cancelled the one-minute penalty imposed on Marc Marquez by MotoGP race direction following his clash with Pol Espargaro in the Catalunya Moto2 race. Marquez made contact with Espargaro while trying to retake the racing line following a mistake on the entry to Turn 10 with two laps to go
Iannone takes first win of 2012

Andrea Iannone claimed his first Moto2 victory of the year with an excellent ride under heavy pressure at Catalunya, while Marc Marquez and erstwhile championship leader Pol Espargaro clashed in controversial manner three laps from the end. Marquez and Espargaro had been two of the primary reasons Iannone could not be assured of victory despite leading for the majority of the race. Along with Thomas Luthi, the lead quartet was rarely separated by more than six tenths of a second

Grosjean upbeat despite early exit

Romain Grosjean remained upbeat despite his early exit from the Australian Grand Prix, as he believes Lotus proved it will be a major force in the 2012 Formula 1 season. The reigning GP2 champion qualified a superb third for his return to F1 racing, but lost three positions with a slow start and then retired following a second-lap clash with Williams driver Pastor Maldonado.
