Mercedes: holding up rivals not enough

Mercedes says it cannot rely Monaco’s lack of overtaking opportunities to make up for its race-day tyre issues. The Brackley-based team has impressed with its single-lap form this year, securing pole position at the last three races. However, it has struggled with its longer-run pace and both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton have endured frustrating slumps down the order in races.
Hamilton sure tyre woes will be solved

Lewis Hamilton says no stone will be left unturned when he visits the Mercedes factory later this week for a brainstorming session to cure the team’s tyre woes. The former world champion has a previously scheduled promotional appearance for a sponsor in Florida first, but he believes the trip to Brackley is now an essential after his disappointing Spanish Grand Prix.
Rosberg says race issues ‘inexplicable’

Spanish Grand Prix poleman Nico Rosberg has admitted he was shocked at how quickly his Mercedes tumbled down the lap chart after his first pitstop. Jordan leads all-Honda top three

Andrew Jordan topped British Touring Car practice at Thruxton, leading a Eurotech Honda one-two. Sam Tordoff’s MG set the pace before a red flag, caused when Matt Neal’s works Honda Civic stopped with an apparent electrical issue, but Jordan moved to the top shortly after the restart. Jordan was the only man to lap in under 1m18s and set several times good enough to go fastest.
Ricciardo: China result not a one-off

Daniel Ricciardo believes his seventh place in the Chinese Grand Prix showed Toro Rosso’s true potential, despite only managing a 16th position in the following race in Bahrain. The Australian scored his best result in Formula 1 to date with a strong drive to seventh in Shanghai, but he was unable to repeat the feat at Sakhir , where he qualified in 13th and dropped down the order as he struggled for pace. Ricciardo reckons Toro Rosso has to repeat the China result in order to confirm its competitiveness, but he does believe his team’s true pace is better than Bahrain suggested.
Kubica accepts blame for Azores crash

Robert Kubica has accepted the blame for his roll on the second day of the Rally Azores, but claims he “wasn’t pushing” when the accident occurred. Kubica rolled on a right-hand bend after hitting a bank midway through the Feteiras stage , and lost four minutes as a result but remains in the rally

Nico Rosberg believes Mercedes faces a “massive mission” to get on top of its rear tyre struggles, after a disappointing Bahrain Grand Prix. The German qualified on pole position but he tumbled down the order in the race to finish ninth, as he was not able to look after his rear tyres as much as his rivals. Schumacher blames tyre problems

Michael Schumacher described his United States Grand Prix as massively difficult after what he felt was a tyre problem caused him to plunge down the order. The Mercedes driver started the Austin race from fifth position but quickly dropped down the order as he struggled with a lack of grip. Eventually the German finished in 16th place as Mercedes continued with its pointless streak, now going for five consecutive races.

Craig Lowndes delivered his third straight V8 Supercars victory in race one at Eastern Creek, as his erstwhile points-leading Triple Eight Holden team-mate Jamie Whincup had a disastrous race. Whincup’s troubles started with a very slow start from pole, which left him down in eighth initially as front row qualifier Jonathon Webb stormed away in the lead.
