Clos targets HRT race seat for 2012

GP2 race-winner Dani Clos is targeting a Formula 1 graduation with HRT next season after testing for the Spanish team in Abu Dhabi yesterday. The 23-year-old Spaniard, who has previous F1 testing experience with Williams, is one of many drivers who have talked to HRT about a possible seat in 2012 and he knows that it would require him to raise further budget to land a role with the team
Johnson: Dover no win or bust

Jimmie Johnson does not see this weekend’s third round of the Chase as a must-win in order to keep his championship hopes alive. The reigning Sprint Cup champion arrives to Dover tenth in the playoff standings, 29 points behind leader Tony Stewart following two of the ten championship-deciding races. Three wins out of his last five races at the one-mile oval point at him getting his championship bid back on track, although Johnson doesn’t believe it is time to panic yet.
Stewart, Waltrip announce changes

Stewart Haas Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing have both announced changes as teams start the second half of the regular season next week at Pocono Raceway. Stewart Haas announced that Matt Borland has been promoted to the role of Vice President of competition replacing Bobby Hutchens, who has been released by the team after filling the position since the outfit started in 2009.
Hughes replaces Zonta at Sumo Power

Warren Hughes will replace Ricardo Zonta at the Sumo Power GT team for this weekend’s round of the GT1 series at Sachsenring. The Briton will be joining Enrique Bernoldi in the revised driver line-up. Hughes had driven for the team during the 2010 season.
Force India extends McLaren tech deal

Mercedes plans to hire reserve driver

Mercedes GP is planning to hire a reserve driver for the 2011 season, but has denied having approached Nico Hulkenberg for the role. The team has been left without a reserve since Nick Heidfeld joined Pirelli – and then Sauber – during the 2010 season.
Sauber: Push-rod design beneficial

Sauber’s technical director James Key believes the team’s push-rod suspension design will be beneficial for the Swiss squad. The Hinwil-based team has followed Ferrari’s route, moving away from Red Bull Racing-led route of a pull-rod suspension despite the team’s success during the 2010 season. Sauber will be using Ferrari’s engine and gearbox, as well as KERS and hydraulics this year
Di Resta confirmed at Force India

Paul di Resta will join Adrian Sutil at the Force India team for the 2011 season, the Silverstone-based squad finally confirmed on Wednesday. Di Resta, this year’s DTM champion, was Force India’s third driver during the 2010 season and has been linked with the racing seat for months. “Last year I became third driver here and good things happened, so here’s hoping we get more good things,” said di Resta during a news conference at the Whyte and Mackay offices in Glasgow.

Malaysian Fairuz Fauzy will be Renault’s reserve driver during the 2011 season, it was announced on Tuesday. Fauzy participated in Friday practice for the Malaysian, British, German, Singapore and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix in his role as reserve driver at Lotus during the 2010 season. He was released by the team at the end of the year, despite having a five-year contract, and has now joined Renault for this season

De la Rosa eyeing racing return
