  • Jason Lofing
    iRacing.com Series Writer
Jason is 21 years old and was born and raised in Elk Grove. California. A big time NASCAR fan, he hasn’t missed a race on Sunday in years. Lofing is also a huge San Fransisco Giants fan and tries to take in at least a couple games a year. Other than sim racing, his biggest (and far more expensive!) hobby is photography. Although he is rather new to sim racing, Lofing has already accomplished some pretty impressive results, qualifying for the 2011 iRacing Oval Pro Series in Season 1, 2011, winning the inaugural Landon Cassill Qualifying Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second one.

I was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1988 and moved to Midland, Michigan when I was two years old. I stayed there until third grade when I moved to Farmington Hills, Michigan and now I currently live in Naperville, IL where I'm attending Metea Valley High School as a 9th grader. In the past, I have participated in soccer and this year I plan on joining swimming or water polo. My family includes my 15 year old sister, a 7 year old sister and my mom and dad. I have been writing since 6th grade and have participated in many writing contests in my school and have received several awards for writing.
My fascination for motorsports began when I was nine. The first NASCAR race I watched on TV was the 2009 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway, won by Kasey Kahne. My favorite NASCAR drivers are Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Jimmie Johnson. I have watched all the races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series since 2010. I currently have three wins on iRacing, two of them in the Nationwide car at Daytona and one in the Street stocks at Charlotte. My favorite car and type of track on iRacing is the Nationwide Series (B Class) car and superspeedways.

Within that league I act as Chief Steward and try to bring the unique viewpoint that this experience gives me into my articles.
I have a BA (Hons) in Journalism and Editorial design and have been writing for seven years and currently cover the Lotus 79 CTC and Radical series alongside my freelance work. Living in the UK, as well as motorsports I love Photography, Arts and Crafts and reading.

I was born in Adelaide and we moved-out for Angle Vale for a few years until I was about 7 years old, when we moved to the Barossa Valley where I live now. I'm 19 years old and currently traveling back and forth weekly as I'm studying for a Diploma of Furniture Design and Technology.

I've always had a love for racing as my close family did some racing and we were always out at the local dirt track. I joined iRacing back in 2010 and slowly but surely got the hang of it as this is my first experience with sim racing and am loving it each time I race. I've won two SK Modified titles (almost had three in a row but finished P2 in 2011 S4), an inRacingNews Challenge championship (2012 S1 Mazda) and was also an AustralAsian Intel GT Series Finalist.
  • Nathan Aljoe
    Contributing Writer
Nathan's passion for motorsport first began in the late 1980s, captivated by the season in which Aryton Senna won his first F1 title with McLaren. Over the years his interest widened to include the British Touring Car Championship, World Rally Championship, NASCAR and various other forms of motorsport. Nathan began sim-racing in the mid 1990s using games developed by Papyrus. He later moved onto SimBim simulations such as GTR, GTR2 and GTR Evolution and has most recently joined the iRacing community.

When he's not working or sim racing, Nathan enjoys spending time and relaxing with his family. Other hobbies include going to festivals, tinkering with his car and doing up his house.
  • Austin Hartenfels
    Contributing Writer
Born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia, I have always had a serious passion for cars and motorsports. Hoping one day to become an automotive journalist for a magazine, I constantly crave the exciting competition that comes along with racing and sim-racing. Having participated in a mere test session in a Legends car at Old Dominion Speedway, I have not been able to get into any real-life competition . . . yet.

As a sim racer, my interests date back to "GTR Evolution." My goal is to have fun and win some races. I made it to Oval Pro in 2010, but did not become very successful. I enjoy any mixed road racing competition and love racing the Silverados around almost any track.
  • Jordan Hightower
    Contributing Writer
Jordan began sim-racing in 2005 with the NASCAR Racing 2003 Season sim and then joined the iRacing community in June of 2008. He hails from Fort Smith, Arkansas where he is currently enrolled at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, after which he plans to attend the University of Arkansas to earn his MBA. Although he enjoys watching and playing basketball, most of Jordan's focus is on motorsports, particularly NASCAR: "Anything that burns gas and goes fast, I like."
  • Scott Kelly
    Contributing Writer
Born and raised in the greater St. Louis, Missouri area, Scott Kelly has had a love for motorsports ever since his father did the right thing by introducing auto racing into his life. No longer able to quench his need for speed by spectating NASCAR races on TV and watching dirt track stars slide around local tracks, Kelly eventually picked-up sim racing in his teens, wheeling cars found in Ratbag Games' "Dirt Track Racing" and "World of Outlaws: Sprint Cars" while also becoming introduced into multiple Papyrus sim-racing series. Joining the iRacing ranks in late 2011, Kelly set his sights on the short track racing he was familiar with, focusing on the sprint car, while also driving the Legends and street stock in multiple iRacing.com leagues.

Kelly brings not just his enthusiasm for racing to the highest-rated motorsports simulation, but also his B.A. degree in English; he covers the action seen in the iRacing.com Sprint Car Series, while also placing the spotlight on various leagues within the service. Enjoying his start to a career in motorsports journalism, Kelly also doesn't mind visiting victory lane from time-to-time.

O'Keefe has been sim-racing since 2005, starting on the Live For Speed simulator. After moving to iRacing in 2008, he was able to qualify for the NASCAR iRacing Pro Series (NiPS) in both 2011 and 2012. Contributing Writer
I was born in Florence, South Carolina in 1989 and have lived here my entire life. I've been around racing since I was a young kid watching with my dad on Sundays. In 2009 and found my local track, Florence Motor Speedway and started working for them as a PR guy the same year. At the end of that season, I started writing for RACE22.com, a Late Model Stock Car news site. In 2010, I picked up my first DSLR camera and started shooting races. To this day, I've experienced some of the best races from behind the camera.

I've been with the iRacing service since its public beta in 2008, back when the top oval car was the Late Model. I've been in over 500 races on the service with 70+ wins on both oval and road. My favorite car on the service is the Chevrolet Silverado. Darlington Raceway and Concord Speedway are my favorite tracks simply because everybody hates them.

McGrew on top down under

McGrew on top down under There were three races remaining on the Red Sox Racing League’s 2013 Season One schedule when  members traveled to Australia for the ”Australian Grand Prix 30” at Phillip Island.  Twenty-four drivers made the trip, but a cold forced points leader Brad Vincent to miss his first start of the season.  Vincent’s absence meant Les Turner, Reed Rundell, and Dustin McGrew had a chance to cut into his points lead, but only McGrew was able to take advantage of the opportunity. McGrew earned his third pole of 2013 with a lap time of 1:29.479 to edge out Turner’s 1:29.526 lap.  Rundell put himself in a position to keep pace with both when he posted a time of 1:29.547.  Dean Moll (4th), Corey A. Wolf (5th), Chris [...]

Vincent back on top at VIR

iRacingSim64 2013-03-16 10-55-40-66

Virginia International Raceway (VIR) was the site of this week’s Red Sox Racing League race, the ”McLaren Challenge Trofeo Pirelli”.  Originally opened in 1959, the full VIR road course was transformed in 2000  re-establishing it as a  world-class racing circuit.  The current configuration has seventeen corners along a sprawling 3.27 miles layout with so many twists, turns, and elevation changes that Carroll Shelby once said “one lap at VIR is like a hundred at Watkins Glen”. After competing on the relatively flat road course in Miami last week, RSR drivers arrived in southern Virginia eager to test their skills on the demanding VIR layout.  Brad Vincent led the way during qualifying and earned his sixth pole of the season with a lap time of 1:47.085.  Tommy Rhyne earned the 2nd [...]

McGrew tops the field in Miami

iRacingSim64 2013-03-08 17-15-02-75

After a week in the chilly winter air of upstate New York, members of the Red Sox Racing League were eager to arrive in Miami, Florida for the “John Nemechek 30″ and to bask in the south Florida sun.  Brad Vincent entered week eight with the overall points lead and an impressive streak of four wins and seven podium finishes in RSR’s first season of 2013.  Les Turner, a Canadian driver with plenty of experience and a history of RSR championships stretching back several years was Vincent’s nearest challenger in the championship race. The contrast was stark between Homestead Miami Speedway and the rolling hills of Watkins Glen, New York.  Homestead’s B-course is relatively flat, much wider than Watkins Glen, and it includes a significant section of the banked speedway [...]

Brad Vincent arrived at Road Atlanta for the “No Georgia Peach 30″ with a streak of three straight podium finishes, but hungry for his first victory of 2013.  “We’ve raised the bar at Team VBR”, said Vincent before the event.  “I told people last week that I was not going to be satisfied with podium finishes.  This team was built with one thing in mind, winning races!” Vincent’s statements might have sounded arrogant to some, but not to those who have followed his career in the Red Sox Racing League (RSR).  “Brad has an amazing record of 27 wins in 37 starts in our league”, said one league official.  “I would not bet against him.  I think he’ll get back to Victory Lane early in 2013.” The group’s qualifying speeds [...]

McGrew outpaces Vincent at Laguna Seca

After two weeks of domination by Paul Hesla, aka “BEERcobra”, the rest of the Red Sox Racing League (RSR) arrived in California for the “Pebble Beach 30″ at Laguna Seca eager to prove that they had not been snake-bit by the Empty Keg Racing driver.  A classic North American road racing course, Laguna Seca winds through the rolling terrain of the Monterey Peninsula. Featuring eleven corners, the 2.23 mile layout includes one of the world’s most famous corners, The Corkscrew”.  The two-section corner is a sharp downhill so steep that drivers are forced to enter it without a sight line to their next turning point.  The tricky corner proved to be the location of several major incidents during the RSR event. Brad Vincent entered the event with back to back [...]

The largest ever starting field in Red Sox Racing League history, a record forty-one drivers, qualified for the “Gentleman Jim’s Day” at the Daytona Road Course in Daytona Beach, Florida.  The event was held in memory of former RSR member, “Gentleman” Jim Albertson.  Jim’s race number, 67, was retired by the league in a moving ceremony prior to the race.  “Jim was the consummate competitor”, said Jeff Thomas.  “Everyone at RSR has positive memories of their races with Jim, so we thought it was only fitting the league should retire number 67.”  In a further tribute to Gentleman Jim, driver Corey Wolf drove a unique “POW/MIA” paint scheme to mirror the one used by Albertson during his final season of racing. After several seasons of multi-class competition, RSR took advantage [...]

Kent, England’s Brands Hatch Circuit hosted the “Glover Excavating 30 at Brands Hatch”, a 23 lap test of patience and endurance in week nine of the Red Sox Racing League’s 2012 Season One schedule.   Featuring a nine corner, 2.30 mile layout, the track was a welcome break from the flat courses driven in Florida during weeks seven and eight. Brands Hatch is full of elevation changes, sharp corners, and straights with just enough room to allow for daring passes.  Drivers and fans alike love coming to the track because there isn’t a bad spot on the circuit when it comes to seeing racing action.  The track was originally used as a dirt track motorcycle track, but was eventually paved and groomed into a world class road course which was [...]

Homestead, Florida was the site for the “Sanchez 30 at Homestead B”, a 25 lap shootout which finally allowed the Class B Corvette drivers a chance to compete for podium spots with the Class A HPD drivers.  After being dominated by their HPD counterparts in the first seven weeks of competition, Corvette drivers were eager to show they could keep pace in a road course event. The 2.3 mile, eleven corner lay out at Homestead’s Road Course B includes two long straight sections in the infield, and over half the speedway section of the main oval.  The result is fast racing and plenty of opportunity for the powerful Corvettes to keep pace with the more nimble HPD cars. Showing just how close the racing would be, Les Turner and Andrew [...]

Night racing in Florida

Members of the Red Sox Racing League traveled to warm, sunny Florida for the “Hendricks Field 30 at Night Sebring” on week seven of their 2012 Season One schedule.  The event was the first night race of the year for RSR drivers.  The fact that it was held on one of most challenging courses on the schedule meant drivers had to spend hours learning the 3.7 mile, 17 corner layout before race time. Sebring has been hosting races since 1950, including the famous “12 Hours of Sebring” endurance race.  The track includes sections of an active airport, so drivers are forced to race on a variety of surfaces as they transition between the hard concrete runways and softer asphalt side roads.  Turn Seventeen, named “Sunset Bend”, has a reputation for [...]

Twenty-two drivers traveled to Belgium for the “Van Ophen 30 at the famous Circuit de Spa GP” in Francorchamps, Belgium during week six of the Red Sox Racing League’s 2012 Season One schedule.  After hearing about the photo finish between Chad Peterson and Les Turner in last week’s race at Okayama, race fans in Belgium were eager to see a repeat performance.  They would not be disappointed. Pre-race practice and qualifying sessions at the 19 turn, 4.35 mile track gave everyone a hint of what was to come as Peterson and Turner once again battled for the top spot.  Peterson won the pre-race competition by earning his 2nd pole of the season with a qualifying lap of 2:06.356.  Turner posted the only other sub-2:07 lap and secured the outside position [...]

Photo finish at Okayama

It all came down to about four inches or 0.003 of a second.  That was the difference between first and second place after 50+ miles of racing action during the Red Sox Racing League’s 5th race of the 2012 Season One schedule.  Twenty-two drivers participated in the “Kōraku-en 30 at Okayama” in Mimasaka, Okayama Japan, but two of them gave fans the best road course finish in RSR history.   The tightly designed, 2.314 mile, eleven corner course at Okayama promised fans a delightful event, but race organizers couldn’t have predicted the incredible finish RSR drivers produced during the event.  The final outcome of the Class A event wasn’t decided until high speed photography confirmed the results posted on the electronic scoreboard.  Chad Peterson earned the win after recovering from [...]

Members of the Red Sox Racing League honored former league member Gary W. Clark during week three of the 2012 RSR multi-class racing schedule.  League administrators dedicated the event, the “Gary W Clark Memorial 30 at Silverstone GP” in Clark’s honor after learning he had died in Knoxville, Tennessee on January 7th.  Clark was only 53 years old at the time of his death. Competitors who knew him from past RSR seasons recalled Clark as an upbeat person who was a consummate gentleman on the track.  “Clark was a classy guy who made sim racing fun”, said RSR members Jeff Thomas and Les Turner. The race was held at the Silverstone Grand Prix track in Towcester, Northamptonshire in the United Kingdom.  RSR drivers are very familiar with the track, having [...]

Members of the Red Sox Racing League traveled to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for the league’s second multi-class race of 2012, “The Kettle Moraine 30 at Road America”.  Family, friends, and fans enjoyed the beautiful countryside and attractions near the challenging road course while twenty-four RSR drivers practiced for the race.  The track has three long straight sections broken up by several tight turns and high speed corners along a 4.048 mile layout.  The track first opened in 1955 and is one of the few road courses in the world which has not changed its original layout.     Week one of the RSR multi-class experiment saw six drivers retire early from the Watkins Glen race as a result of damage.  In what was probably the most incident filled race in RSR [...]

Martinsville Shut-Out

iRacing Pro Series Oval championship leader Brad Davies was shut-out of the win column last week at Martinsville.  Indeed, in two races the man who has led the iPSO points race from the get-go managed to add a “mere” 115 points to his series-leading total after disconnecting in one race and coming home twelfth in another.  Don’t worry.  Davies has not suddenly forgotten how to race, witness the fact that he qualified on pole on Sunday and led 138 of 200 laps against the likes of Greger Huttu and Tyler D. Hudson. I was able to stay pretty close to Brad although he was definitely quicker,” said Huttu. “The car was stable but didn’t rotate enough in the middle, but I’ve never really gotten it to do that properly here.
