McLaren: Webber ECU had no issues
March 18th, 2013
McLaren believes an issue with the systems in the Red Bull garage, rather than a faulty ECU, was the cause of Mark Webber’s troubles at the start of the Australian Grand Prix. Webber lost all telemetry data and KERS on the formation lap, which contributed to a poor getaway and wrecked his efforts in his home grand prix. Red Bull initially suspected Webber’s problem was caused by a failure of the standard ECU , which is supplied by McLaren Electronic Systems (MES)
Laverty sure of PBM bike potential
March 1st, 2013
Michael Laverty says he is already convinced of the potential of Paul Bird’s new in-house MotoGP chassis despite only seriously running in the final afternoon of the three day Sepang test. Problems incorporating the standard Magnetti Marelli electronics into the new bike meant Laverty was effectively a bystander over the first two days at Sepang, but he was able to get out in the final afternoon and finished 22nd fastest. With team-mate Yonny Hernandez – riding an Aprilia chassis – four places back, Laverty believes the in-house PBM machine has already demonstrated its potential
Scintillating pace unexpected – Stoner
October 26th, 2012
Casey Stoner admits he hadn’t anticipated being so emphatically fast on the opening day of the Australian Grand Prix. While the Australian has won the past five races on his home track, he came into this year’s event with his injured worsening and his form uncertain
Lorenzo confident he can beat Pedrosa
October 12th, 2012
Jorge Lorenzo is confident he can beat Dani Pedrosa to victory in the Japanese Grand Prix despite the Honda’s practice form. Pedrosa and Honda have been the pacesetters in recent MotoGP rounds – but their run was interrupted by Pedrosa’s disastrous San Marino GP, which allowed Lorenzo to pull clear in the title battle. The Honda man then responded with a dominant performance at Aragon , and was quickest in Friday practice at Motegi as well.
Pedrosa warns against spec ECUs
September 27th, 2012
Dani Pedrosa has warned against the possible introduction of a control ECU to MotoGP in the coming years. Series promoter Dorna announced this week that it has signed a four-year deal with electronics specialist Magneti Marelli to make a standard ECU available to all teams from 2013. Although teams will still have a choice between running the Magneti Marelli unit or producing their own ECUs next year, Dorna is known to be pushing for mandatory use of a control system from 2014
Rea ready for dream MotoGP chance
September 11th, 2012
Jonathan Rea says simply making his MotoGP debut this weekend at Misano represents a ‘dream come true’.
Stoner: Pole pleasing after tricky session
July 7th, 2012
Casey Stoner says his fourth pole position of the season came despite an engine issue forcing him to use a second Honda chassis and a less favourable set-up. Stoner had begun the session on the chassis, but had abandoned it due to struggling with rear grip – a choice he says was vindicated by immediately matching his best time on the replacement frame. Halfway through the session however he pulled off on the outside of Turn 5 when his engine failed, forcing him to switch back to the original chassis for the dramatic final minutes of qualifying.
Ducati pair eye Silverstone advances
June 12th, 2012
Ducati’s Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden believe Silverstone will be important in assessing the true measure of the progress the team made during MotoGP’s recent tests at Barcelona and Aragon. The team left the two Spanish circuits confident it had made progress, however small, with the electronics of the GP12 – which play a key element in performance at Silverstone. Rossi said the forthcoming British Grand Prix would prove just how much the team had advanced, but kept expectations in check by insisting the main priority was to try and match his pace and finishing position in Catalunya
Aprilia blames rules for absence
June 7th, 2012
Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia says MotoGP’s recent rule changes have carried it in the wrong direction and made the championship less appealing to constructors. Aprilia has not had a prototype presence in MotoGP’s premier class since 2004 despite dominating the 250cc category with Jorge Lorenzo in both 2006 and 2007.
Dovizioso fastest in Catalunya test
June 4th, 2012
Fresh from his maiden Yamaha podium in the Catalunya Grand Prix, Andrea Dovizioso went fastest in MotoGP’s group test on the Spanish circuit. As was the case for the entire field, the Tech 3 rider’s focus was on development work rather than chasing outright laptime.
Stoner joy tempered by set-up concerns
May 5th, 2012
Casey Stoner said concerns over the set-up of his RC213V have given his side of the Honda garage a headache for Sunday’s Portuguese Grand Prix despite him sealing a first pole position of 2012. The Australian said attempts to improve the set-up between final practice session and qualifying had the reverse effect, to the extent that he doubted he would be able to fight for pole. While those fears ultimately proved unfounded – Stoner claiming his first pole of the year – the Australian says Honda still has to find the optimal balance heading into tomorrow’s grand prix
Pedrosa admits he lost focus
April 7th, 2012
Dani Pedrosa blamed electrical problems and handling issues for his low-key seventh on the grid for the Qatar Grand Prix, but also confessed to losing concentration in qualifying as his troubles mounted. While the Spaniard’s Honda team-mate Casey Stoner topped two practice sessions and qualified second, Pedrosa has not been a factor at the front all weekend
Stoner says traffic hid true pace
April 6th, 2012
Casey Stoner says he did not have a chance to show his and Honda’s true pace in final practice in Qatar – but that despite being beaten by Jorge Lorenzo and Cal Crutchlow’s Yamahas in session three, he is getting happier and happier with his bike. Reigning champion Stoner led the way in the first two practice sessions, before falling to third in Friday’s final 45 minutes.
Hayden staying cool over Ducati pace
April 5th, 2012
Nicky Hayden says he is not getting too excited about his rapid time in the opening free practice session for MotoGP’s Qatar Grand Prix on Thursday night.
Hayden fastest in rain-affected test
March 24th, 2012
Ducati’s Nicky Hayden set the pace on a rain-affected second day of testing at Jerez, though the American set his time on an almost-dry track near the end of the day. Hayden’s lap of 1m40.755s was nearly a second faster than that of Karel Abraham on the Cardion AB privateer Ducati.
Stoner heads Jerez opening day
March 24th, 2012
Casey Stoner topped the opening day of MotoGP’s final pre-season test of 2012 at Jerez on Friday. The reigning world champion completed 54 laps on his Honda and set the benchmark time of 1m39.146s on his very last tour, leaving him 0.273s ahead of Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo
Lorenzo happy to spend career at Yamaha
March 23rd, 2012
Jorge Lorenzo says he would be happy to spend his entire MotoGP career at Yamaha – but admits that it needs to deliver a more competitive bike in 2012. The 2010 MotoGP title-winner has only driven for the works Yamaha team in MotoGP so far, stepping up to its second seat alongside Valentino Rossi in 2008 after winning two 250cc championships.
Senna: Williams very easy on tyres
March 3rd, 2012
Bruno Senna is excited by how kind the new Williams is on the Pirelli tyres, admitting that even he was surprised with how well the rubber lasted during his final pre-season race simulation at Barcelona today. Senna completed almost a full race distance during the afternoon session, highlighted by a 15-lap stint on the soft tyre, and a 19-lap stint on Pirelli’s medium compound. According to Senna, it was pay-off in an area the team has been especially focused on.
Stoner: Honda still has work to do
March 1st, 2012
Casey Stoner says Honda still has work to do to perfect its RC213V, despite leading works team-mate Dani Pedrosa in a 1-2 on the final day of testing at Sepang.
