Vandoorne fastest in Monaco

McLaren junior driver Stoffel Vandoorne topped Formula Renault 3.5 free practice in Monaco on Thursday. The Fortec driver – racing in Monaco for the first time – was one of several rookies to shine in the session before putting in a decisive lap with seven minutes remaining to go fastest. Vandoorne was then involved in a scary incident that brought the session to a premature end with around two minutes remaining.
Yelloly returns to FR3.5 for Monaco

Formula Renault 3.5 race winner Nick Yelloly will return to the series for this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix support race with Zeta Corse. The Briton, who finished fifth in the championship last season with Comtec Racing, received a last-minute call-up from the Italian team to replace Mihai Marinescu. He will partner fellow GP3 racer Carlos Sainz Jr, who landed a one-off deal with the team last week.
Buller joins Fortec for British F3

Northern Irish Formula 3 racer Will Buller is a last-minute addition to the entry list for this weekend’s British F3 International Series opener at Silverstone, and will drive a Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes. Buller, 20, has been contesting this year’s F3 European Championship in a T-Sport Dallara-Nissan.
Maldonado banking on Monaco expertise

Pastor Maldonado is hopeful his Monaco expertise will allow him to score the Williams team’s first points of the season in Sunday’s race. The Venezuelan has a good record at Monaco, with wins in both Formula Renault 3.5 and GP2 as well as a sensational run to sixth place in his first F1 appearance before being taken out by Lewis Hamilton.
Sainz joins Monaco FR3.5 field

Red Bull backed racer Carlos Sainz Jr will drive for Zeta Corse in the Monaco Grand Prix-supporting Formula Renault 3.5 race. Sainz, who is racing full-time in GP3 this year, takes over the second seat at the team, which has already been raced by Emmanuel Piget and Matheo Tuscher this season. With GP3 not returning to Monaco this year after the series held a round there for the first time last season, the FR3.5 race gives Sainz an opportunity to gain experience on the famous street circuit.

Nasr dominates practice for Carlin

Felipe Nasr set the fastest time by over three quarters of a second in the free practice session for the third race weekend of the GP2 Series season at Barcelona. Track conditions were dry following the first Formula 1 session , and conditions were ideal for quick times from the off. Jolyon Palmer was first to set the fastest time for Carlin, soon toppled by reigning Formula Renault 3.5 champion Robin Frijns (Hilmer).
Kiss eyes Hungary FR3.5, GP3 runs

Kiss finished second fastest in Auto GP’s two Saturday free practice sessions before qualifying on the front row for Sunday’s feature race.
Lancaster returns to GP2 with Hilmer

Kimiya Sato snatched an unlikely victory from pitstop-delayed Hungaroring pacesetter Vittorio Ghirelli in a battling performance in Sunday’s opening race of the weekend. The result is Sato’s fifth consecutive podium, and extends the German Formula 3 graduate’s lead in the drivers’ standings to 14 points over third-placed Hungaroring finisher Sergio Campana. Sato made a flying start from third on the grid to cut between polesitter Ghirelli and Auto GP debutant Tamas Kiss into the lead

Moreau, who is back at a race meeting for the first time at this weekend’s Spa World Endurance Championship round, is still undergoing rehabilitation for the injuries sustained aboard his OAK Pescarolo-Judd 01 LMP1 prototype in June 2012
Walker retains Delta-ADR WEC drive

Briton James Walker will remain with the G-Drive/Delta-ADR LMP2 squad for the remaining six-hour races on the World Endurance Championship schedule, starting this weekend at Spa. Renault unsure about engine problems

Renault is unsure of the cause of the engine problem that led to Sunday’s Formula Renault 3.5 running to be reduced as a precaution. Second qualifying and race two were reduced in length at Aragon last weekend as a reaction to several cars suffering high oil consumption in race one, causing reliability issues. Renault and its FR3.5 engine partner Zytek have started an investigation into the problem, the cause of which was not immediately clear in Spain.

Nato on pole for race two at Aragon

Formula Renault 3.5 rookie Norman Nato took pole for race two at Aragon in a chaotic wet qualifying session on Sunday morning. The Frenchman came out on top in a session blighted by red-flag stoppages, while his DAMS team-mate and championship leader Kevin Magnussen will start from the back after he spun into the gravel in the treacherous conditions. Nato set his best time in the longest run of activity without a stoppage, initially edging Stoffel Vandoorne for pole before Magnussen’s spin brought out the red flag.
Da Costa sent to the back of grid

Antonio Felix da Costa has been put to the back of the grid for the first Formula Renault 3.5 race at Aragon after his car ran out of fuel in qualifying. The Red Bull junior stopped on track following the chequered flag, and was unable to get his car back to the pits after setting the third fastest time in the session. Just like in Formula 1, FR3.5 rules require teams to be able to produce a fuel sample from a car after qualifying.
