Mansell joins stewards for Silverstone

Former world champion Nigel Mansell is the latest driver to join the stewards’ panel this season. The 1992 title-winner will be the drivers’ representative in the stewards’ office at Silverstone this weekend. Mansell won the British Grand Prix four times during his career, with three of those victories coming at Silverstone in 1987, ’91 and ’92
Pentus earns first FR3.5 pole

Coletti on top in second Hungary test

Stefano Coletti set the fastest time in today’s final Formula Renault 3.5 collective test at the Hungaroring. The Monegasque went top with seven minutes of the hour and 15 minute session remaining, demoting Magny-Cours winner Nathanael Berthon. Draco’s Frenchman ended the afternoon 0.248 seconds off Coletti’s effort of 1m34.377s.
Mansell back in action for Hungary

The Beechdean Mansell Motorsport team has announced that it will return to competitive action in Hungary in August following its Le Mans crash. Nigel Mansell damaged the Ginetta Zytek GZ09S car in a high-speed crash in the early hours of the Le Mans 24 Hours, something that forced the team to miss the next race of the Le Mans Series in Portugal
Coletti tops Brno’s post-race test

Comtec’s Stefano Coletti topped Brno’s post-race Formula Renault 3.5 test on Monday. The Monegasque recorded a lap of 1m40.804s in the morning session, to finish 0.422s ahead of championship leader Mikhail Aleshin. Brno double winner Esteban Guerrieri was quickest in the afternoon, setting a time of 1m41.343s.
Lancaster, Nebylitskiy get penalties

Two post-race penalties have demoted the fifth and sixth place finishers, Jon Lancaster and Anton Nebylitskiy, to ninth and 10th positions in this afternoon’s Formula Renault 3.5 race at Spa-Francorchamps. Fortec Motorsport’s Jon Lancaster received a 10-second post-race penalty for not respecting the track limits.

Mansells shake down new Ginetta

Nigel Mansell and his sons Leo and Greg completed a successful shakedown of the Ginetta Zytek GZ09S LMP1 they will race in this season’s Le Mans 24 Hours at the Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal this week. The Mansells spent the first day shaking down the car and working with the Beechdean Mansell Motorsport engineers to find a set-up all three drivers could work with. Nigel spent the majority of the first day behind the wheel, before handing over to Leo.
Coletti completes Comtec line-up

Formula 3 Euro Series frontunner Stefano Coletti is to move to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series this year with Comtec. Coletti will line up alongside Greg Mansell at the team, which took Alx Danielsson to the championship title in 2006. “Stefano comes with an excellent sporting pedigree; his father was a successful P1 Powerboat racer – the Formula 1 of the sea – and his sister is a top downhill skier, so I think his competitive spirit is in his genes,” said Comtec team manager John Barnett.
Mansell to take on dual campaigns

Greg Mansell will return to Formula Renault 3.5 this season, as well as racing an LMP1 car in the Le Mans Series. The 22-year-old son of 1992 world champion Nigel Mansell raced in the series last year for Ultimate Motorsport, before switching to Comtec Racing for the final two rounds.

Nigel Mansell is targeting a drive in this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours after buying into British sportscar team Beechdean Motorsport. The 1992 Formula 1 world champion has formed Beechdean Mansell Motorsport to run a factory-backed Ginetta-Zytek Z09R in the LMP1 class of the Le Mans Series this year, and is hoping to receive an entry for the 24 Hours.

Baguette stays top in second practice

Bertrand Baguette repeated his morning form to go fastest in the second Formula Renault 3.5 free practice session at Motorland Aragon. With the newly-completed circuit yet to fully rubber in, the Belgian was able to slice 1.7 seconds from his earlier effort. Chris van der Drift, hunting his and Epsilon Euskadi’s maiden win of the season, went second quickest in a session that was interrupted by three red flags.
Greg Mansell joins Comtec for Spain

Comtec Racing has signed Greg Mansell to contest the Formula Renault 3.5 finale at Motorland Aragon in Spain this weekend. Mansell’s promising debut season in the category was disrupted when he parted ways with Ultimate Motorsport shortly after the Portimao meeting in August.
