Zlin halted after spectator fatality
September 2nd, 2012
Juho Hanninen was declared the winner of Rally Zlin after it was stopped prior to the final stage when a spectator was killed. Event organisers are in the process of issuing a statement but it is understood the deceased was standing in a non-spectator zone when the Subaru Impreza of Czech driver Vaclav Kopacek rolled several times. Hanninen had been in a close fight with Skoda Motorsport team-mate Jan Kopecky starting the final day but edged 16.2 seconds clear when he beat Kopecky by more than 10s on stage 12, Majak
Hanninen claims dominant Ypres win
June 23rd, 2012
Juho Hanninen became only the second ever Finnish winner of the Ypres Rally with a dominant performance on his return to the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The 2010 series champion is only contesting a limited IRC schedule this year, but added a second win of the season to his Circuit of Ireland triumph.
Hanninen takes Ireland victory
April 7th, 2012
Juho Hanninen clinched his first victory in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge since Azores in July 2011 after Andreas Mikkelsen made a late mistake on the Circuit of Ireland. The result also made Hanninen only the second ever non-British/Irish victor of the famous event, which was included on the IRC schedule for the first time this year, following in the footsteps of 1979 victor Pentti Airikkala. Hanninen and Mikkelsen had been locked in battle throughout the weekend, regularly swapping the lead
Hanninen moves into Ireland lead
April 6th, 2012
Juho Hanninen took the lead from Andreas Mikkelsen on the only Circuit of Ireland night stage that took place before an early halt was called to Friday’s action. The field had been scheduled to make second passes through both Drummond and Legane after dark, but only the former stage ran as delays mounting up from earlier in the evening convinced the organisers to call off SS5
Mikkelsen takes early lead in Ireland
April 6th, 2012
Andreas Mikkelsen holds a narrow lead over Juho Hanninen after the first three stages of the Circuit of Ireland.
Mikkelsen leads into final day
February 24th, 2012
Andreas Mikkelsen will take a 16.2-second lead into the final day of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge season-opener in the Azores after heavy rain led to the Friday afternoon stages being truncated. Stage eight Coroa da Mata was cancelled outright and stage nine Sao Bras to Vila Franca reduced from 16 to six kilometres. Skoda UK driver Mikkelsen still managed to extend his lead over works rival Juho Hanninen by 0.8s in the brief stage mileage that took place
Mikkelsen takes early Azores lead
February 23rd, 2012
Reigning Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Andreas Mikkelsen took a narrow early lead over 2010 title-winner Juho Hanninen as the 2012 series got underway in the Azores this afternoon. Last year Mikkelsen produced a breakthrough challenge for victory on this event – then held in the summer – before Skoda requested that he hold position behind works driver and rally leader Hanninen.
Kopecky clings on to lead in Zlin
August 28th, 2011
Jan Kopecky’s Rally Zlin lead has been slashed to just a second over Freddy Loix with three stages to go after the works Skoda man lost time with power steering problems this morning. Kopecky had to carry out a makeshift repair after today’s first stage and was at least able to maintain enough pace to cling on ahead of last year’s Zlin winner Loix’s BFO Skoda. Juho Hanninen has also gained on his rally-leading team-mate, though he is 10.2s adrift in third
Hanninen ahead in Azores tussle
July 16th, 2011
Juho Hanninen has moved back into the Rally Azores lead with two stages to go, after briefly losing his first position to Andreas Mikkelsen. Amid further rain and fog on the island, factory Skoda driver Hanninen fell to second on SS13 when he missed a junction and found himself 2.7 seconds behind Mikkelsen (Skoda UK) in the overall classification
Hanninen pulls away in Azores
July 15th, 2011
Juho Hanninen is edging away from the field in increasingly difficult conditions on Rally Azores. While the middle test of this morning’s opening three-stage loop was cancelled due to livestock in the road, SS4 brought rain and SS6 thick fog and mud.
Hanninen leads as Bouffier closes
June 4th, 2011
Juho Hanninen continues to lead the Yalta Rally with just one loop of stages to go, although Bryan Bouffier has closed back in this morning.
Bouffier leads on dramatic morning
June 3rd, 2011
Bryan Bouffier has moved into the lead of the Yalta Rally on a dramatic first full morning on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge’s debut in Ukraine. Thierry Neuville had won the first two stages of the day to extend his lead to 8.6 seconds over Bouffier, who had made quick progress from his overnight sixth place. But a high-speed spin on SS5 Orlinoje left Neuville’s Kronos Peugeot beached for three minutes, and allowed Bouffier to take the lead – despite the Peugeot France driver having lost time himself with clutch problems and having to overtake two late-running course cars.
Hanninen jumps into narrow lead
April 16th, 2011
Reigning Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Juho Hanninen leads Skoda team-mate Jan Kopecky by just 0.1 seconds with two stages of a thrilling Rally Islas Canarias remaining. Thierry Neuville and Freddy Loix are also still in contention after the first loop of two Saturday stages. Neuville briefly took first position on SS9 San Mateo (by 0.9s), as Kronos’ young Belgian continued to show the best form of his career so far
Kopecky heads tight Canarias fight
April 15th, 2011
Jan Kopecky holds a narrow early lead after the first loop of stages on the Rally Islas Canarias, round two of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The works Skoda driver is just 0.4 seconds ahead of Kronos Peugeot’s rising young star Thierry Neuville.
Rankings: Bouffier soars up the order
January 24th, 2011
The Monte Carlo Rally could not have better illustrated motorsport’s capacity to surprise and delight – and shock and disappoint.
Sarrazin hands podium to Wilks
January 22nd, 2011
Guy Wilks has scored the first British podium on the Monte Carlo Rally since 2003, following Peugeot’s decision to drop Stephane Sarrazin to fourth to help Wilks’ Intercontinental Rally Challenge title aspirations. Wilks will contest the whole IRC season with the Peugeot UK team, while Sarrazin’s Monte Carlo Rally outing was a one-off
Bouffier clinches Monte Carlo victory
January 21st, 2011
Bryan Bouffier clinched by far the biggest win of his career by cruising to victory in the Monte Carlo Rally. Prior to this year’s Monte, Bouffier had never even scored an Intercontinental Rally Challenge point, having been quick but luckless on his previous appearances

January 21st, 2011
Bryan Bouffier extended his Monte Carlo Rally lead despite only being eighth-quickest on the first stage of the final day.
Bouffier leads into final day of Monte
January 20th, 2011
Bryan Bouffier leads Francois Delecour by 28 seconds with the rest of the field at least a minute adrift at the end of a dramatic second day of the Monte Carlo Rally. Erstwhile leader Juho Hanninen has fallen back to sixth ahead of Petter Solberg, as both chose the wrong tyres for what turned out to be snow-covered stages this afternoon. With today’s final Cimetiere de Vassieux to Col de Gaudissart featuring even heavier snow than the preceding stage, Delecour benefited from being the only person on fully-studded snow tyres, and took the first stage victory of his return after an eight-year absence.
Hanninen dominates Monte day one
January 19th, 2011
Juho Hanninen holds a commanding 44.5-second lead over Freddy Loix at the end of the opening day of the Monte Carlo Rally. Last year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion was quickest on the first of this afternoon’s two runs through the St Bonnet stage, then just 0.8s slower than stage winner and fellow Skoda driver Loix on the repeat. Loix’s stage win pulled him clear of leading Peugeot driver Petter Solberg in their battle for second place.
