Sauber confident of more progress

Sauber is confident it has made progress with solving the rear-end instability problem that held it back early in the season. The Swiss squad tried a new rear wing in last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, which was found to be a step forward.
Hulkenberg still sure Sauber move wise

Nico Hulkenberg is still convinced that Sauber’s 2013 car has the potential to be a regular top-10 runner and that his switch into the squad has not been futile. The German admitted at the end of last year that moving from Force India to the Swiss team had not been an easy choice , saying he had been swung by Sauber being “very strong for podiums” in the early stages of 2012.

Sauber boss Monisha Kaltenborn believes Nico Hulkenberg’s drive in the Malaysian Grand Prix was the kind of performance that shows the team was right to hire him. The German put on a strong showing at Sepang to score his first points with Sauber after finishing in eighth position , ahead of the McLaren of Sergio Perez and right behind the Lotus duo. Sauber revises fuel system procedures

Sauber has made revisions to its fuel system procedures for this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix in a bid to ensure that there is no repeat of the problems that sidelined Nico Hulkenberg in Australia. Hulkenberg could not start the first race of the season after his team discovered the fuel tank had suffered damaged when it collapsed in on itself. This has been caused by a vacuum building up inside the structure

Sauber surprised by frontrunners’ pace

Sauber chief designer Matt Morris was surprised by the gap between the leading teams and the midfield during the Australian Grand Prix weekend. The Swiss team went into the weekend with high hopes, but after Nico Hulkenberg was unable to start because of a fuel leak , Esteban Gutierrez managed only 13th place in the race.

Grosjean quickest for Lotus on day two

Romain Grosjean topped the second day of the final pre-season Formula 1 test at Barcelona. The Lotus driver had brought the morning session to a premature halt when his car stopped out on the circuit, but he ended up fastest with a 1m22.716s lap on soft tyres in the afternoon. Jenson Button’s McLaren had set the pace in the morning and he looked strong for most of the afternoon.

Sauber rookie Esteban Gutierrez believes partnering Nico Hulkenberg in 2013 will be massively beneficial for his own development as a grand prix driver. Hulkenberg outscored his 2012 team-mate Paul di Resta during last year’s Formula 1 campaign and finished the season with a starring drive at Interlagos, when he overtook the McLarens to lead at various points of the race. The German can also boast a pole position during his debut F1 campaign for Williams in addition to an outstanding CV in the junior formulae.

Force India confirms 2013 launch date

Force India has become the first team to confirm the launch date of its new car – as the outfit plans to unveil its 2013 challenger on 1 February. The Silverstone-based team, which ended its season on a high as Nico Hulkenberg challenged for victory in Brazil, plans to unveil its Mercedes-powered VJM06 at its home circuit. Although the outfit has not confirmed either of its drivers for 2013, Paul di Resta is expected to remain on board for a third season
