Marciello stripped of race-three win

Formula 3 European Championship leader Raffaele Marciello has been excluded from his victory in Sunday morning’s race at Brands Hatch. Scrutineers found that the width of his first-gear ratio was below the minimum allowed measurement of 12.75mm. Ferrari junior driver Raffaele Marciello turned the tables on Alex Lynn by winning the second race of the Formula 3 European Championship weekend at Brands Hatch. The Italian once again got a better start than poleman Lynn, but this time was able to sweep around the outside of the sister Prema Powerteam Dallara-Mercedes before turning into the first corner. Championship leader Marciello’s lead grew nearly to five seconds, but Lynn began to slash into the gap when the leader became mired in lapped traffic.
Rossi admits qualifying pace a problem

Valentino Rossi conceded that he does not know how to match his main rivals for qualifying pace after ending up eighth on the grid at Le Mans . Fifth place in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix is Rossi’s best grid position since returning to Yamaha. He was 0.822 seconds off pole in France

Marquez takes second MotoGP pole

Marc Marquez claimed his second MotoGP pole in four starts as he converted his practice pace to the qualifying top spot at Le Mans. Riding his spare Honda after crashing at the chicane late in the pre-qualifying practice session, Marquez put in an 1m33.187s in Q2 to take provisional pole. Jorge Lorenzo trailed that by 0.2 seconds at first, before closing to within 0.030s with his penultimate lap.

Ricciardo hopes Toro Rosso slump over

Toro Rosso now understands how to get the best of its car and can be a regular Formula 1 points-scorer again, reckons Daniel Ricciardo. The Italian team had an encouraging Spanish Grand Prix weekend, with both Ricciardo and team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne coming close to Q3, and the Australian taking a point for 10th in the race. Ricciardo had previously made a breakthrough with seventh place in China, only for Toro Rosso to be left baffled when the best it could manage a week later in Bahrain was 16th.
TDS recalls Beche for ELMS

The European Le Mans Series-winning TDS Racing team has brought back Mathias Beche for the remainder of its championship defence. The Swiss driver will renew his partnership with 2011-12 team-mate Pierre Thiriet in the French team’s ORECA-Nissan 03 LMP2 for the remaining four races of the season, starting this weekend at Imola. Beche replaces former GT1 World Championshipo driver Jonathan Hirschi, who finished third with Thiriet in the Silverstone season opener last month.
Di Resta failure could prompt changes

Vittorio Ghirelli completed a clean sweep of fastest times from Auto GP sessions at the Hungaroring by carrying his dominant Friday testing form into Saturday’s pair of half-hour free practice sessions. The Italian recorded the fastest lap of the weekend in free practice one with a time of 1m32.662s
Muller fights back in second practice

Yvan Muller led a Chevrolet fightback in the second World Touring Car practice at the Hungaroring. Where Honda had seized the initiative in the opening session , this time Chevrolet was in the ascendancy as Muller, RML team-mate Tom Chilton and the Bamboo Cruze of James Nash locked out the top three. Muller’s best, a 1m54.704s, was almost two tenths faster than Tarquini’s respective practice-one effort

Ghirelli fastest in Auto GP testing

Super Nova’s Vittorio Ghirelli led the way in Auto GP’s three-hour test at the Hungaroring on Friday afternoon. The Italian, who has scored two podiums in his rookie Auto GP campaign this year, recorded a fastest time of 1m33.604s. Ghirelli was the only driver among the top four to set his fastest lap on medium, rather than soft, compound Kumho tyres.
