Piscopo to race BMW in Superstars

Edoardo Piscopo will make his Superstars International Series debut with the RGA BMW team at Brno next weekend. The 25-year-old Italian is stepping up to the series after finishing third in last year’s Porsche Carrera Cup Italy, and is excited about his graduation, despite not being able to test ahead of the races at the Czech track. “I can’t wait,” he said

Vittorio Ghirelli completed a clean sweep of fastest times from Auto GP sessions at the Hungaroring by carrying his dominant Friday testing form into Saturday’s pair of half-hour free practice sessions. The Italian recorded the fastest lap of the weekend in free practice one with a time of 1m32.662s

Super Nova’s Vittorio Ghirelli led the way in Auto GP’s three-hour test at the Hungaroring on Friday afternoon. The Italian, who has scored two podiums in his rookie Auto GP campaign this year, recorded a fastest time of 1m33.604s. Ghirelli was the only driver among the top four to set his fastest lap on medium, rather than soft, compound Kumho tyres.
Campana takes nervy Marrakech win

Sergio Campana scored a dominant debut victory for Auto GP newcomer Ibiza Racing in Monza’s opening round of the 2013 series. Last year’s Marrakech Auto GP winner only received the call to race for restaurateur Giuseppe Cipriani’s team on Wednesday, and is fighting to secure a permanent seat in the championship. The 2011 Italian Formula 3 champion carefully negotiated a thrilling three-car fight with polesitter Riccardo Agostini and Kimiya Sato to move into the lead on the second lap.

Kuroda joins Auto GP with Euronova

Euronova will bring Yoshitaka Kuroda into Auto GP for the 2013 season. The 26-year-old came over to European racing with Euronova two years ago, and competed first in Formula Abarth and then in Italian Formula 3. He joins compatriot Kimiya Sato in an all-Japanese line-up at Vincenzo Sospiri’s team, having already tested the previous generation Auto GP at Barcelona last December.

Niederhauser retains Jenzer seat

Former F1 team boss Forti dies

Guido Forti, the former team boss of mid-1990s Formula 1 outfit Forti Corse, has died. He was 72. The Italian originally co-founded his outfit with businessman Paolo Guerci in the late 1970s, racing in Italian Formula Ford before gaining respect by taking Franco Forino to an Italian Formula 3 title.
Sirotkin joins ISR for FR3.5

The 18-year-old was an occasional top-10 finisher in Formula Renault 3.5 this season with Comtec. Euronova has also confirmed its line-up for next Thursday’s test, with Japanese driver Yoshitaka Kuroda set to continue his relationship with Vincenzo Sospiri’s squad.

Auto GP championship leader Adrian Quaife-Hobbs completed the perfect meeting at the Algarve, becoming the first driver to claim a double victory in an Auto GP meeting and setting a new record of five wins in a season. From eighth on the reversed grid, the Super Nova racer gained added satisfaction from achieving all his passing manoeuvres on-track. The GP3 graduate’s title chances were boosted further after Pal Varhaug, Quaife-Hobbs’ closest rival in the drivers’ standings, retired following an opening lap collision
